I posted this because References to the Trinity because Truthfaithlove denies the Trinity.

A few verses directly reference the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:

Matthew 3:16–17: "As soon as Jesus Christ was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and landing on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ " (also Mark 1:10–11; Luke 3:22; John 1:32)

Matthew 28:19: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

2 Corinthians 13:14: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.”

1 John 5:7–8: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.”

Luke 1:35: "The angel answered and said to her, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.’ "

Hebrews 9:14: “How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”

Jesus as God
Many verses in Isaiah, John, the epistles, and Revelation imply support for the doctrine that Jesus Christ is God and the closely related concept of the Trinity. The Gospel of John in particular supports Jesus’ divinity. This is a partial list of supporting Bible verses:

Isaiah 9:6 “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Cf. Isaiah 7:14 (born of a virgin), and
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” together with John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” and John 1:18 “No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known.”[27]The Bible says “God the One and Only” in NIV.
John 5:21 “For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”
John 8:23–24: “But he continued,‘You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am [the one I claim to be], you will indeed die in your sins.’”
John 8:58 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”[28]

John 10:30: “I and the Father are one.”
John 10:38: “But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”
John 12:41: “Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.”—As the context shows, this implied the Tetragrammaton in Isaiah 6:10 refers to Jesus.
John 20:28: “Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” Due to the strict laws of Moses concerning blasphemy, Jesus and all of the apostles in the room were obligated to put Thomas to death for the blasphemy of calling a man God, unless that man truly was God. Jesus was similarly prohibited from receiving the worship of men as God, unless He was God. Thus the response of Jesus and others in the room indicates that all of them believed Jesus to be God, not only Thomas.[citation needed]
Matthew 28:17: “When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.” Under the Laws of Moses, no man could allow others to worship Him as God, which is blasphemy. Jesus allowed His followers to worship Him, indicating that Jesus believed Himself to be God.[citation needed]
Philippians 2:5–8: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!”
Colossians 1:15: “He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God”
Colossians 1:16: “For by him [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.”
Colossians 1:17: “He [Jesus] is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 2:9: “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form”
Titus 2:13: “while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”
1 Timothy 3:16: “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”
Hebrews 1:8: "But about the Son he [God] says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.”
1 John 5:20: “We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”
Revelation 1:17–18: "When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.” This is seen as significant when viewed with Isaiah 44:6: “This is what the LORD says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.”[citation needed]
The Bible also refers to Jesus as a man, which is in line with the Trinitarian concept that Jesus was fully human as well as fully divine which is expressed through the theological concept of kenosis.

[edit] God alone is the Savior and the Savior is Jesus
The Old Testament identifies the LORD as the only savior, and the New Testament identifies Jesus Christ as God and Savior. These verses are consistent with Trinitarianism, as well as various nontrinitarian beliefs (binitarianism, modalism, the Latter-Day Saints’ Godhead, Arianism, etc.)

Isaiah 43:11: “‘I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.’”
Titus 2:10: “and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.”
Titus 3:4: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,” in regard with:
Luke 2:11: “‘Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.’”
Acts 20:28: “‘the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.’”
Titus 2:13: “while we wait for the blessed hope-the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ”
John 4:42: "They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man [Jesus] really is the Savior of the world.’”
Titus 3:6: “whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior”

I like to add the follow Creed which explains the Trinity.

The Athanasian Creed

**
Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic Faith. Which Faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly. And the Catholic Faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity. Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Ghost is all One, the Glory Equal, the Majesty Co-Eternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Ghost. The Father Uncreate, the Son Uncreate, and the Holy Ghost Uncreate. The Father Incomprehensible, the Son Incomprehensible, and the Holy Ghost Incomprehensible. The Father Eternal, the Son Eternal, and the Holy Ghost Eternal and yet they are not Three Eternals but One Eternal. As also there are not Three Uncreated, nor Three Incomprehensibles, but One Uncreated, and One Uncomprehensible. So likewise the Father is Almighty, the Son Almighty, and the Holy Ghost Almighty. And yet they are not Three Almighties but One Almighty.
So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Ghost is God. And yet they are not Three Gods, but One God. So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Ghost Lord. And yet not Three Lords but One Lord. For, like as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be God and Lord, so are we forbidden by the Catholic Religion to say, there be Three Gods or Three Lords. The Father is made of none, neither created, nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone; not made, nor created, but begotten. The Holy Ghost is of the Father, and of the Son neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.

So there is One Father, not Three Fathers; one Son, not Three Sons; One Holy Ghost, not Three Holy Ghosts. And in this Trinity none is afore or after Other, None is greater or less than Another, but the whole Three Persons are Co-eternal together, and Co-equal. So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity is Trinity, and the Trinity is Unity is to be worshipped. He therefore that will be saved, must thus think of the Trinity.

Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting Salvation, that he also believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the right Faith is, that we believe and confess, that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man.

God, of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man, of the substance of His mother, born into the world. Perfect God and Perfect Man, of a reasonable Soul and human Flesh subsisting. Equal to the Father as touching His Godhead, and inferior to the Father as touching His Manhood. Who, although He be God and Man, yet He is not two, but One Christ. One, not by conversion of the Godhead into Flesh, but by taking of the Manhood into God. One altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by Unity of Person. For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one Man, so God and Man is one Christ. Who suffered for our salvation, descended into Hell, rose again the third day from the dead. He ascended into Heaven, He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies, and shall give account for their own works. And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting, and they that have done evil into everlasting fire. This is the Catholic Faith, which except a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.**

Any Christians who deny this is heretic.

My favorite is John 4 in Our Lord’s conversation with St. Photini:

“God is a spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth [and Who identified Himself as truth?] for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.”

Like I already said.

Christianity is NOT about history. Its about CHRIST.

Philippians 2:6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.

If even Jesus finds the relationship too complex to be grasped, who are WE to decide the state of God? Since the Bible never stated the word Trinity, I do not see why any decent Christian should involve themselves with this matter. Its like…somebody told you to take a taxi to Texas and you start asking…‘wait, is the taxi a male or female and is he/she also a butler’???

What do we call this?..‘not minding your own business and losing sight of your designated duties’

Christianity is about Jesus Christ. I like to add that HIS STORY, is God’s story. The Bible is a historical book. We also have writings of the Early Church Fathers about early Christian worship and practices which closely resemble Catholics and Orthodox Christians than Protestant ones.

Because Trinity gives Christianity a more orthodox belief or correct beliefs. Had not the Church taught this, Gnostics would take over Christianity. Gnostics have other Gospels. Surely, you probably heard about them; Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Judas, etc.
What do we call this?..‘not minding your own business and losing sight of your designated duties’
It’s called Theology. The study of God. Trinity falls into this.

Just like I do not insist that God cannot make Mary sinless, you cannot insist that God made her sinless either.

So, if either of us makes a stand on this, it implies we are ASSUMING.

Now, in order NOT to Assume, we have to take God’s word for it. Word for word.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to ALL men, because ALL sinned—
  • Now, I am NOT assuming. I take the above as it is. Can YOU? If you so much as deviate even a little from the above declaration, you are essentially a Heretic.

You are repeating the same message in the other thread. Don’t make a clone copy. I already gave an answer.

Your answer is to look to the council? and look at history?

Sorry, I don’t look at such things to be a CHRIST-ian. I just look to CHRIST.

When you look at Christ, do you see God? Do you see the Holy Spirit? The multitude of scripures presented show a strong foundation for the concept of a Trinity to be valid. Perhaps you do not fully understand the concept. Personally, I liken it to a person standing in front of three seperate lights, each light casting a seperate shadow, but each shadow eminating from that person. The shadows are seperate but they have in common one entity. Thus it is with the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. The OP has presented sufficient Scriptural evidence to support his claims, wish that it could be so with some of the other doctrines that are represented by his faith. 🙂

I look to Church Authority as the means of how I can be saved. Because Jesus founded Church with authority.

Manny and I don’t always see eye to eye, but he is right on here. Christ himself told us to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I just don’t get how anyone can say the Bible doesn’t “say” Trinity. It is right there in black and white (and sometimes in red and white).
Why would He tell us to baptize in this way? Why didn’t He just say: “baptize in the name of God”?

God the Holy Spirit

Acts 5

Ananias and Sapphira
5:1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and with his wife’s knowledge he kept back for himself some of the proceeds and brought only a part of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4 While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” 5 When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. 6 The young men rose and wrapped him up and carried him out and buried him.

7 After an interval of about three hours his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter said to her, “Tell me whether you [1] sold the land for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” 9 But Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Immediately she fell down at his feet and breathed her last. When the young men came in they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11 And great fear came upon the whole church and upon all who heard of these things.

From what you’ve told us, you really don’t know who Christ is. Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. You have shown an inordinate amount of ignorance of the meaning of Scriptures. How can you have love and intimacy with someone you don’t know?

I would seriously doubt that Jesus found anything too complex. You misunderstand this verse. Here is the Haydock commentary on that verse:

Ver. 6. Who being in the form [1] of God, (that is truly, properly, and essentially God from eternity, as the ancient Fathers here observed against the Arians) taking the form of a servant, (i.e. taking upon him our human nature) became truly a man, and as man the servant of God, but remaining always God as before, thought it not robbery, no injury to his eternal Father, to be equal, to be esteemed, and to declare himself equal to God, to be one thing with him: as on divers occasions he taught the people, as we have observed in the notes on St. John’s gospel, &c. If you are a Baptized Christian and espouse a false belief contrasted with the official teachings of the Church Jesus built and protects, continuing to do so after being corrected, then you are a heretic. Simply being incorrect is not automatic grounds for heresy. You are of course incorrect, though. Let’s see if you qualify for heresy.

Are you a Baptized Christian?

If so, here is a chance for you to be corrected and avoid heresy. You are incorrect in your interpretation of what the Bible passage means. If it said “it was raining cats and dogs” would you think that they meant to say cats and dogs were falling from the sky? The official teaching of the Church founded by Christ, the pillar and bulwark of truth, is that Mary was sinless. Being sinless doesn’t mean you’re God. God is certainly sinless, but can also protect someone. God has protected His Bride the Church from teaching error in faith and morals.

Please go learn the proper and true interpretations for Scriptures, and infallible teachings of God’s Word.
