Re: Isaiah 18:4, in the Hebrew it’s “like a dazzling heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” The “dazzling” word refers to sunshine, generally. So we’re talking atmospheric conditions – the grass with dazzling sunshine, possibly even with heat shimmers, and then the vapor coming up from dew that’s being dried up by harvest heat (probably also shimmering).

The comparison is of the shekhinah cloud of glory hovering over the Temple (and thus the Lord in His dwelling place considering stuff) with the shimmering cloud of dew and the shimmering, dazzling glory of a heat mirage on a patch of grass. It’s a very neat piece of poetic imagery, actually, because it suggests to us what the shekhinah cloud looked like – like light, like smoke, like a cloud, like a heat shimmer, and probably all of these in constant movement.

It does not suggest that God smokes doobies.

My older sister said that to me once. The Genesis verse is the one I quoted to her…

I suggest reading Scripture daily. You’d be surprised how often God gives you the opportunity to use something you read the night before.
This is so true! I think “Wow, I **just **heard/read about that very thing” every week it seems…

I truly do not understand the argument that all mind altering substances are detrimental. Let me ask you this. Think about your greatest experience of god, the most profound moment you’ve ever had with him. Was your mind not altered? I know that when I first experienced god my mind was in a state that it certainly is not in on a day to day basis. My case being, all religious experiences are abnormal in the extreme, in terms of day to day functioning. Furthermore, though there is a divide with most people between science and religion, the same compounds which are found in marijuana, and various other psychedelic herbs, are found in the blood stream of one experiencing a religious, or highly introspective (such as dreams), happening. Marijuana has been shown, repeatedly, to produce meta-cognition, that is thoughts about thought. When this happens you are experiencing god’s greatest creation, man, like you never have before. I myself frequently have this experience. Even further the use of mind altering herbs is referenced in the bible, by none other than Christ himself.

“I will take my rest and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs. For afore harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches.” (Isaiah 18:4-5)

Scholars agree, universally, that the phrase “like a clear heat upon herbs”, refers to the burning of herbs, and when we take this in conjunction with Christ’s comparison of the act with the act of consideration, we find that Jesus, yes that’s right, God himself, partook of mind altering herbs.
…yeah and some see UFOs in Scriptures–anything can be made to seem correct if the argument is spinned in the right directions… sadly, you, as many others do want to see a Christ that enjoyed the immoral and mundane… so Yahweh God’s only problem is with the product of the vine?:
thieves, misers, drunkards, slanderers and swindlers, none of these will inherit the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:10)
factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and all such things. And about these, I tell you now as I have told you in the past, that people who behave in these ways will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:21)
I think you are confusing hollowood’s rendering with American Indian and Oriental/Hindu and US’s “spritual movement of the 60’s and 70’s” “spiritual enlightenment!” …by the way… do you and your scholars have proof of this (other than your take on “mind-altering-herbs”? …what say you to that Old Testament favorite …that sweet burning of fat? (…just a little visualization to aide you in your understanding of what took/takes place in Jewish worship!)

Maran atha!
