What is the scripture verse that Protestants often use where it talks about the scripture being without error? I wanna say it’s in Timothy but I can’t find it and now my mind is drawing a blank. :o
Can someone please help me? 🙂

Are you talking about 2 Timothy 3:16? Where is says the Bible is “useful” for teaching. As opposed to the only way to teach?

Is it 2 Timothy 3:16?

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness” [NAB]

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” [NIV]

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” [KJV]

Hello, Mrs. Abbott. Are you referring to 2 Timothy 3:16: “All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice”? Or perhaps 2 Peter 1:20-21: “Understanding this first, that no prophecy of scripture is made by private interpretation, for prophecy came not by the will of man at any time: but the holy men of God spoke, inspired by the Holy Ghost” ?

I hope this helps. Have a blessed day!

Mat 5:18 For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.

This is the verse that christians ignore…

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

I believe that this verse is sometimes projected on to scripture to prove inerrantcy.

Yes, you know us Christians. We’re in the habit of ignoring Scripture. It couldn’t possibly be that we have actually seen that verse before and adhere to what it actually means.

😉

Well, if you read that verse in context, you would know that it means that he expected strict observance of the law given by Moses.

You reject becoming a strictly observant jew.

So, there you go…

No he didn’t, btw seeing as you’re not Christian (as we discovered in the Septuigant thread) why are you commenting on Christian scripture verses? Paul went through great lengths to point out we were no longer bound by the OT law, i.e. OT covenant law, because it was replaced by the NT covenant law.

There is a big difference between what was said by Paul the apostate and what is said by God almighty.

Where does God speak in the new testament?

Yes he did expect this “until all is accomplished.” And all was accomplished in the Paschal Mystery.

Jesus said a lot of things in the New Testament and Christians believe that he is God, right? 🤷

In any case, all of Scripture is the Word of God, not just the sentences you can place quotation marks around and say “God said ‘such-and-such’.” That’s the Catholic view in any case.

Well, in dealing with you, I have to answer my own questions:

Mat 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him;

Mat 3:17 and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

this is the only possible place…

Jesus is the Word made flesh, the fulfillment of the OT. I’m sorry (truely, mroe than you know) that you refuse to accept this. I can only hope that you’ll fairly re-evaluate your Jewish Torah and Christ, and then accept that Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament Covenant. Until that day, I would respectfully ask you to refrain from derailing threads by responding to issues of Christian theology, which you do not currently accept at all.

I accept Jesus, but I do not accept what Paul taught in contradition to God.

Paul created all new laws, and he had no authority. He has no authority.

Justification is just one example of something he created. Everyone wonders how they will accomplish justification. Paul has put all of christian history though hoops over this. It is Paul’s law, not the law of God…

Paul didn’t teach anything contrary to what Jesus taught, and you don’t accept Jesus… You’ve previously made the clear… Unless you’ve changed your mind again.

Alright, what had Jesus said that you think I do not accept?

John 10:30
“I and my Father are one” 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?”
33 The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”

Jhn 10:35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken),

Jhn 10:36 do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?

Jhn 10:37 If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;

Jhn 10:38 but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

The whole book of John is filled with his testimony that he is the son of God. This is the Gospel of John that you can be born of God as he was, and become an offspring of God.

It is all about being sent by God and descending from heaven when you arrive. Thomas believed because he saw this.

Well, I think I’m done participating in the hijacking of this thread. Let me know if we get back to the original topic.

like I said, geometer isn’t even christian. He’s made it pretty clear he doesn’t beleive Jesus is the Messiah, and he doesn’t beleive the NT is the inerrant word of God. Not that I have any problems with non-christians participating on these forums, or even in these discussions (about the NT). But only when they do so honestly, admiting they are not Christian, you know… Lacking false pretense.

I haven’t lied to anyone here, but you are trying to create a scandal.
