Things like the printing press, ink, and paper!!!
The printing press is a miracle? O.K. I’ll go with that thought. But when was that created again?

Regarding material things, that’s more like the spit Jesus used to mix with dirt and then heal the blind man with the mud.

The irony. I’m sure geno75 would be the first one to tell us that Lent, the 40 days of prayer and fasting for Catholics that prepares us for Easter, is unbiblical.
Didnt say such a thing. :blessyou:

But you quoted it as though a Catholic had never even heard of Matthew before. Does your religion have 40 days of prayer and fasting before Easter?

Good, you dont need to.

So what is so sacred about teaching Christ in him crucifed? We were told to do it, so do it!

Catholic answers states somewheres that God likes to use material things to perform miracles.

Things like the printing press, ink, and paper!!!

Our Soverign God, our creator, isnt he awesome!!!
If you just tone down the condescension and just be little more charitable, your points will be heard a lot better. Your bitterness and sarcasm come through i your posts, and it puts people on the immediate defense. Why not just step away for minute, and realize you can get your points across without being sarcastic?

Step away, take a breath, and start making poitns without the nonsense, it’ll go a long way

God Bless.

For those that cannot read all 123,343,234,323 volumes of the RCC teachings because of oppression in this world, the Holy Bible, the Word of God can be smuggled easier to them. In it is the way, the truth, and the life-Jesus Christ. All those whispers calling out to us in this world that thirst for truth. And the Holy Bible can give it to them.

How do you smuggle sacred tradition to those who are oppressed?

Seen enough?

Teach in him crucified - both through the oral tradition passed down to us from the Apostles and through Scripture. I completely agree. Both our apostolic Tradition and Scripture are the Word of God. Did you think we believed otherwise?

The printing press is a mechanical device for printing multiple copies of a text on sheets of paper. It was first invented in China. It was reinvented in the West by a German goldsmith and eventual printer, Johann Gutenburg, in the 1450s.

So, why would God have waited until 1400 years after the birth of Christ for this miracle? I’m not getting the “miracle” angle here.

I will. But again, I must call out the blatent overuse of smileys and other bitter and sarcastic words used by those who call home here at CA against other christian brothers and sisters.

No one here will admit that though, but I forgive them. And I hope you can forgive me to.

What does that have to do with the 1400 years before the printing press and the relationship to oral Tradition and Scripture?

of smileys
It’ hard for me to get worked up over something called “smileys” for heaven’s sake. Anyway, I believe there is an ignore “smileys” feature available for your use if you do not wish to look at them.

I just looked back through this thread and I don’t see an overuse of smileys. I see you using them just as often as anyone else; if not more. In fact, I see you used the double smiley.

I’ll agree with you there–the smileys do more to inflame the already inherent vices of apologetics than anything else. A smiley after a well-executed refutation can seem like the most arrogant thing possible. That’s why I restrict myself to the occasional wink and that’s it. Excessive emoticon use blunts your ability to create a really good turn of phrase, and kills your ability to convey tone.

I prefer my sarcasm to be pure and unadulterated by the tyrrany of the emoticon. Down with the emoticons! 👍

Catholic catechism paragraph 82 Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence."
Yet
Jesus warned us against tradition Mark 7:1-13

This is a tough one for a protestant to wrap their arms around.
The thing to remember is that the reason the Catholic Church regards Tradition (capital T) and Scripture on an equal basis is because Scripture is part of our Tradition. So if we were to subscribe to the misunderstanding that Jesus was warning us against Tradition, we would have to conclude that Jesus was warning us againstthe Scriptures.

Thanks for the prayers above posters. I appreciate them. 🙂

To Churchmilitant. Oh, no you wouldn’t. Don’t go declaring things like that as if you know what you would do. You haven’t experienced it yet, so you have no idea what you’d do. That’s the most honest answer you can give to a question like the one I posed. At the height of my Endo pain, I could barely parent my three children due to the extreme pain I was in. I fell on the ground in public places and would have the wind knocked out of me due to the pain. I was handed two “tubs” of pain meds, Vicodin and motrin and told to take them everyday for the duration of my cycles. At the point of menopause, the pain may go away, or it may not, I was told. So staring down 20 years of pain medication, I prayed for a better solution. Knowing I have a Celiac child, I decided to see if the gluten was contributing… and guess what? It was. Dispite the fact that I tested negative for gluten sensitivity or Celiac disease.
Do you think God will marvel at your strength if are dx with something like I had and continue to eat the protein that provokes the pain??? Or do you think God will be relieved that you’ve found a solution to ending your pain and you take it and thank Him for guiding you and assisting you in finding relief? I am convinced God prefers the latter. It’s just messed up thinking to suggest you’d eat a food that caused you harm and compare yourself to Jesus while doing it.
I am praying for you. I have been in constant pain for twentyone years. Celiac disdease is not any harder than being a diabetic. You make it sound like it is cancer. You have to have a special diet and considering how much wheat is used it is difficult. Yes I have it too. I don’t think anything will calm you down to being a listening person. I offered the pain I had today for you. I hope someday you to will learn the great grace of suffering for our Lord. I pray that you will read Church Militiant he has a lot of wisdom. If you truly were listening to just the bible, you wouldn’t be calling the Blood of Christ wine. Church Militant is right about you talking this over with your parish priest. I find that the difficult part of just receiving the Blood of Christ is traveling. There are underlying issues that you are not dealing with. I hope you find someone to talk this over with I will continue to pray for you.

Maybe we can get back on track.

Jesus is led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted. 40 days and nights he fasted. Imagine the agony!!! Now Jesus gets to be tempted by satan. Satan at first tries to attack the flesh side of Jesus. And what does Jesus do?

Jesus quotes written scripture!!!
Not once, but 3 times!

Jesus overcame the temptor! By using written scripture!!! Thank you my Lord and Savior!

Holy Scripture--------devil tested and God Approved!!!

Amen
peace
What you fail to point out, is that Jesus is using Scripture to debunk the incomplete use of Scripture.

Look at the devil’s quote: It’s from Psalm 91: 11-12. “For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways. With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” But what O’l Scratch left out was the next verse: “You shall tread upon the asp and the viper, trample the lion and the dragon.” In the OT, we know who the Asp is who’s head gets stepped on.
Jesus often fought fire with fire, he didn’t use Scripture exclusively as you see when he brings up the “Seat of Moses” something you won’t find in Scripture.

bowing to a statue of mary, is idolatry is it not? The promises of the rosary is proobably the most blasphemous of them all, and by the way why is that not your 2nd commandment like it is jewish and protestant I think its because of all your statues etc. Maybe I’m wrong. Just trying to learn.
I have not read all the post so this might have been answered adaquetly already. The answer to your first question depends on if the person regards the statue as a god. Catholics do not regard Mary as god. So the answer is no.
The commandment numbering to me is fascinating to me. The Bible does not number them. The only reason we know that there is a number ten is because the Bible refers to not the ten commdments but to the ten words.
The Jews have one numbering starting off with the first word being I am thy Lord thy God.
The protestants go by another numbering and Catholics another. No matter how they are numbered they all contain the same commandments.

You should read the following for a more complete understanding.
Do Catholics Worship statues.
