I have been wondering about this for awhile and I still can’t accept the answer that was given to me. In the letter to Corithinians Paul explains to the people about dealing with virgins. He speaks about it is better not to have relations but if it happens (sex) its ok if you are going to get married. Well if he says its ok only if you are getting married then can they receive communion? My priest says no because it is a sin (fornication), but yet the bible says else, he then says he was speaking to a certain type of people during that time. Well isn’t the bible always living, speaking to all people of all era’s?

1. You are misinterpreting the passage in 1st Corinthians.
2. Your priest is right.
3. Get and study both the Bible and your catechism.

You’re speaking of 1 COR 6:36-38

36 If anyone thinks he is behaving improperly toward his virgin, and if a critical moment has come and so it has to be, let him do as he wishes. He is committing no sin; let them get married.
37 The one who stands firm in his resolve, however, who is not under compulsion but has power over his own will, and has made up his mind to keep his virgin, will be doing well.
38 So then, the one who marries his virgin does well; the one who does not marry her will do better.

Paul is NOT refering to those who have already sinned by fornicating, but those who are approaching that line.

Is that how you Americans interpret that passage… as something having to do with sex.
In my Bibletranslation it is clearly about paul’s preference for celibacy and it goes like this:

"But if anyone thinks he brings shame on the young woman if she gets too old, and can it be no differently, then he must do as he has decided (that is marry). Thereby he has comitted no sin; then they shall marry.

It was always my understanding that these verses (which are 1 COR 7:36-38, not 6 BTW), refer to Paul’s preference for celibacy over marriage, while acknowledging that marriage is also a valid calling. They do not refer to fornication. He is saying that they commit no sin by giving in to their yearnings and marrying, not by having sex outside of marriage.
