For a person with scruples, what saints are good to read and what saints are good to avoid to better help your spirituality?

Good question! I’m looking forward to reading the responses. Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection is not a saint, but he struggled with scruples and the feeling he was damned. One day he just decided to serve the Lord no matter whether he was damned or not, and his scruples vanished. “The Practice of the Presence of God” was published after his death, but it was based on his conversations and letters. I haven’t read it, but maybe I should.
 
Scupulous Anonymous might have some resources for that sort of thing.

Great question. Many of the saints were themselves scrupulous at times, and I’m not so sure that some weren’t scrupulous without even realizing it, given that some of the writings certainly sound that way. So I too look forward to the answers. As someone with scruples myself, I know that I sometimes avoid reading writings by saints–especially saints from previous ages–because they can really do a number on my scrupulosity. 😦

I think St Alphonse Ligouri had scruples and struggled with them for years, as did his mother.
 
Are there any books in particular by saints that would be good?
