I am new to the group and am having several issues with my eldest daughter(17). We attend Mass faithully and have also predominately homeschooled her since the beginning.
When she was 15, she started getting involved with boys(I had no idea, it was all sneaking and lying). She had boyfriends and we had no idea. She would leave the house wearing one thing and then change into very provocative clothes. She had a whole group of friends that we didn’t even know about. She hated us and God and would run away regularly.
Long story short, she(and the rest of us) endured 2 years of hell.
She struggled with the faith alot and still does some, but does attend Mass and says the Rosary when she is home and has a lot better attitude in general.
As a scrupulous soul, I am really struggling with several things. She still insists on wearing clothes that are less than modest(skin tight jeans, tight tops, etc). My husband and I constantly admonish her, but she persists and insists that they are not immodest and that is just our “opinion” and that she just wants to fit in with her peers.
In addition to that, she has an on again, off again boyfriend that is not Catholic and is definitely not helping her grow in her faith. We have never approved of dating so young, we have always taught our children that dating is reserved for finding a mate and 16 or even 17 are too young for that.
With her past issues(some of them mental-we were in therapy for 2 years), I am really struggling on what to push and what to just keep my mouth shut about. I don’t want her to completely lose the faith and I want to build a good and trusting relationship with her. I just know that as a parent with a minor child, I am responsible before God for allowing her to do things that are wrong. Anyone else go through similar situations and have advice? Thank you so much
