Scrupulousity, Confession and Work

At my work place you are allowed a fifteen minute break I believe for every four hours you work. I went to confession during that break and ending up going over time by like 4 to 5 minutes.

Does that constitute mortal sin and did it invalidate my confession?

I had no intention of being gone that long, seriously.

It’s not a mortal sin because you did not intend to stay out that long. But don’t you clock in and out for breaks? Wouldn’t this be accounted for on your timecard?

No, it did not invalidate your confession to go a few minutes overtime…and not being deliberate about it!

God would not deal with us that way.

Being late from a break is not a mortal sin. It’s not even a venial sin unless you are doing it intentionally to cheat your employer out of time.

I don’t know how flexible your workplace is, but if for some reason one of my breaks ends up running over the allotted time, I just take some time from my lunch break or work a few minutes later. Or skip one of my breaks the next day. Things tend to even out.

And yes, your confession is still valid.

If you sincerely confessed and the priest used the words I absolve of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit then its valid. Absolution is not conditional.
