I confessed a mortal sin yesterday and returned today because there was a key detail that I mentioned in confession yesterday that I realized was incorrect on reflection after confession.

The priest today told me this was a minor thing and there was no absolution necessary unless I had something else to confess that happened today. Off the top of my head I mentioned something that I am not certain happened but it is possible that it did. I received absolution for that. Now I’m wondering if I confessed something that didn’t happen and if it’s a sin to receive absolution for “nothing”? I feel like this is scrupulous thinking but maybe I need to confess this next time?

I hope that makes sense?

It sounds like you’re sinking into a scrupulous cycle. Make an appointment with your priest and discuss all these issues. Hopefully he can set your heart at ease.

Thank you- I feel like that could be the case. I will talk to my priest.
