SD TV News Anchor rant on angry viewers

A South Dakota tv station had to interrupt a show to give a weather bulletin. This caused the viewers to angrily complain about the interruption. News anchor scolded the viewers saying “A life is more important than a show!”

My husband is a TV news anchor in a very storm-prone part of the country. You wouldn’t believe how often the viewers call or email to complain that weather bulletins are interfering with their shows.
 
I have no idea what the weather was like in this situation but there are times that the weather alerts are over done. Yes we need to be warned but sometimes they make a mountain out of a ant hill. It isn’t just TV we had a storm last week and the online paper talked about a neighborhood being “Devasted” On one street trees went down and One house did get a tree through the attic.(no one in it at the time) It was a big deal for that family. But not being able to back out of your driveway due to trees is not devastation.

OK I listened to the tape and this was a serious situation. People are very attached to their shows. BUT these days you can often watch it the next day on line
 
This is probably the reason so many people are still killed by twisters in this day of new technology in meterology that allow them to track storms. The people are so involved in their shows they don’t want to take cover!
