I have read a little piece of information that is SDA material. I don’t have the copy right here, so I’ll try to remember what it was and hope that you can explain the idea, prinicple and historical reasoning.

I read that there is belief that there was a 1260 year “rule” of the Catholic Church that was supposedly somewhat tyrannical and that French forces had captured the Pope and imprisoned him. This imprisonment had ended the dreadful 1260 year “rule”.

Can somebody please clarify what the 1260 year “rule” was, what the imprisonment meant and all that matters about this subject? I’m really interested.

The SDA Church teaches that the time, times and half a time mentioned in scripture is the equivent of 1260 years, they do this by using the jewish year, which is 360 days. Therefore, time (360) times (720) and half a time (180) = 1260. They claim that in 538AD the papacy began its 1260 day rule as the little horn of Daniel 7-9 and the fulfillment of Rev 13-17. They claim the 1260 years ended in 1798 when General Berthier(sp) of Napoleans army entered Rome and the pope died in exile. Marking the “end” of his temporal reign of evil.

There are MANY problem with their chronology and logic… but this is an overview of their beliefs.

Thanks
