There are certainly a lot of claims about Catholics committing vast massacres of Protestants (or alleged medieval proto-Protestants) that bear little relation to reality. I think it’s important for us Protestants to combat such claims. They make us look quite silly.

At the same time, however, we must remember that Catholics DID kill Protestants for their faith. And we must remember that said killing was evil. I find far too many Catholics who say things like “Oh, well heresy was the same thing as treason back then, so it was OK for the state to execute heretics.”

It’s hard to dispute recorded historical facts. Unfortunately many people prefer the myths as long as it makes the Catholic Church look bad.

I very much doubt Ben Carson “buys into this”…
…He’s already went on record in saying he doesn’t believe it.
