SDA & Vinegar

I’m a Master Food Preserver & got a question about making pickles with lemon juice instead of vinegar. The recipe had come from an SDA friend of the questioner. Apparently, SDA are not allowed to use vinegar - Ellen White said it was bad for health & morals. (Vinegar used to have a higher alcohol content than modern vinegar.)

Some references I’ve run across say the opposite - that SDA teaching is that regular doses of apple cider vinegar are good for the system.

My bump of curiosity is bothering me - does the modern SDA church demand abstinence from vinegar, or just suggest it, or ignore it?

This is just another example of the deluded ravings of Ellen Gould White (whose name adds up to 666) that she claims came from the Holy Spirit.

Vinegar by its nature does NOT contain alcohol, as a bacterium has converted all the alcohol and other carbohydrates TO acetic acid, aka ethanolic acid–which is the chemical name of vinegar!

I was raised as a third generation Adventist, and was educated in their schools. I am now Catholic. In fairness to the SDA, I have never heard of the ban on vinegar. It is used in the kitchens of their schools and hospitals, as well as the homes of probably most everyone.
