Hi all,
I have some friends that are interested in going to some type of Catholic Bible College, or getting a Certificate in Catholic Bible Studies so they can teach Bible Study Classes. At our church we have some scripture classes, but nothing they can use to get a certificate. I checked with our Diocese Education department, but couldn’t find any answers there either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Summer conferences at Franciscan U of Steubenvill OH, there is a Defending the Faith for apologetcis, Applied Scripture Study, and St. John Bosco for catechists, also a DRE, RCIA and YM track at Bosco.

Of course for a serious student of Sacred Scriptures - to obtain a Licentiate in Sacred Scriptures (LSS) -
The Pontifical Biblical Institue in Rome.

Here is someone who has it.

Fr William with an SSL and STD

The Pontifical Biblical Institute offers two degrees, the licentiate (SSL) and the doctorate (SSD).

When I received my SSL from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, our language requirements were as follows:

Modern Languages:
You had to qualify in Italian, German and English.
If any of these was your native tongue, you had to add another one.
I qualified in Italian, German and French.

Biblical Languages:
Introductory and Advanced Hebrew,
Introductory and Advance Koine Greek, Aramaic, Latin
and another Biblically useful ancient language. Some of which were Arabic, Syriac, Sanskrit, Akkadian, Hittite, Coptic, Greek of the Septuagint, etc.

I finished my SSL there in 1995 and am not sure what their language requirements are today.

I finished my doctorate, not at the Biblical Institute, but at the
Pontifical Gregorian University in Biblical Theology, an STD.

If you have this inclination - pursue it. It is most rewarding in learning about the LORD AND FOLLOWING HIS WAY, for He is The Way, The Truth and The Life.

God Bless.

Deacon Joseph, see if your Diocese might be willing to “import” the Denver Catholic Biblical School. It’s a 4-year, college level course. I think we get a certificate, if my memory is working today. Regis University in Denver gives college credit for it.

It is a truly excellent school. I’m in the second year; I’ve learned so much! And I used to think that I knew my Bible pretty well; after all, I’m an ex-Protestant. 😃

In regard to Richard’s list - I’m not familiar with any of them but Catholic Distance University. I asked my DCBS instructor about them, and he said that, as far as he knew, their teachings are orthodox. I’m thinking of finishing my BA with them.

Hi Ruthie,
I saw your recommendation in the Web.
Yes, the Director Dr Tim Gray - I saw him teaching the Gospel of Matthew on EWTN - The series is very good and he welates very good insights of the OT Books…

I am interested and checked out with them if they offerDistance Learning programmes especially with modern technology . Unfortunately No.
