Last week I listened in anger as our priest in his homily put forth a clever argument supporting the reception of communion in spite of unrepented sins like using contraception or being in a second marriage not blessed by the church. He suggested that abstaining from reception of communion for these sins was as absurd as for small infractions like children breaking their fast by taking a sip of water or forgetfully putting a piece of candy in their mouth only to remember and immediately spit it out anytime from midnight the night before receiving.
I watched one Mother with preteen children get up and walk out in the middle of this harmful message.
The week before, he obscured the idea that Jesus is God by having us substitute “Lord Hear Our Prayer” with “Jesus Pray for Us.” Is Jesus now on the level of any saint such that He merely intercedes for us with the one real God?
