We’re going to be staying near Sacred Heart Church, the one on Second Ave in Seattle. Is that a good place for Sunday morning Mass? Any other places near the Space Needle or Safeco Field that are particularly good? We’re looking for a good NO Mass (not TLM this time, thanks).

I also heard the Ruthenian parish there is excellent, if you want to give that a try.

Hi Easter Joy,

Sacred Heart Parish is probably just fine, and there’s probably not another Catholic Church near Safco Field, though there is one a half-mile or so from the Space Needle on Queen Anne Hill, but it doesn’t look all that special (it’s called St. Anne’s).

There’s a new Catholic parish located on the nothern part of downtown Seattle, also on second ave. It’s called Christ Our Hope Catholic Church. It’s not actually a church, but rather it’s housed in the old Josephinium Hotel, owned by the Archdiocese. Mass is at 9:30 on Sunday. It’s quite modern looking, but it looks nice, too. Here’s the link:

Immaculate Conception as mentioned by Corsair looks wonderful, and it’s a little southeast of downtown, I think.

There’s also Blessed Sacrament Parish, near the University of Washington, but it would require a bus ride. Beautiful church, run by the Dominicans. It reminds me of the old churches I’ve been to in the UK. It’s the OF Mass, too. It was damaged in the Nisqually earthquake, but it’s been totally repaired now:

Oh, yes, I’d forgotten Blessed Sacrament. I don’t know lot of churches in the area, but I know the Dominicans have that parish up there. If we have the time to get over there, that might be nice, too.

Thanks!

I was in Seattle this time last year. I was staying in the University District and went to a very early Sunday morning Mass at Blessed Sacrament before heading to the airport. I was very pleased with the no-frills low Mass and would certainly go back there again.

I believe that the Dominicans at Blessed Sacrament celebrated a Solemn High Dominican Mass with Archbishop Sartain from the “throne” last August 7. We tried to make it but the car broke down.
