How will we know when the Second Coming is for real?

Given that our modern society is so cynical (or gullible) about what they are told, when Christ comes for the second time how are we going to know for sure that he is legit? If someone went on TV today and claimed to be Jesus Christ, most people would just write him off as a nut. But what if the REAL honest-to-goodness Jesus Christ himself appears on this earth and calls us to Him? How will we know He is really who he says he is?

Other than the standard ambiguous responses like “Oh, God will let us know in His own way”, what are everyone’s thoughts on this?

I don’t recall the passage vebatum, but I believe He’ll return “Walking on the clouds with a flaming sword in one hand”.

Also I REALLY doubt He will bother with TV.

God bless

I assure you that He will make it known to all of us that the second coming has arrived.

I think they’ll be warning signs. No, not a rapture per se (I’m honest enough to say I don’t know what will happen. You should be too), but probably an Anti-Christ/the church being persecuted much worse than what it is now…

I think no one will miss HIS coming!

The sky ripping from end to end and dead bodies wriggling out of the earth to meet HIM! The lame running towards HIM (even those with broken necks, missing limbs, etc) and the blind lifting their heads to see HIS luminous form in the sky. Completely awesome!

We ought not assume that there will be definable events to point to HIS return, so that we have time to repent in the future. Persecutions come and go; so do natural events. The event will His return itself. The time to repent is now.

His coming will be like a thief in the night, so He said. And equally unmissable.

I don’t know how I think He would present himself too us… but I know how I don’t think he will… TV lol.

I never saw the whole movie but the one clip I’ve seen of “Religulous” Bill Maher is interviewing a man on TV who claimed to be the second coming of Christ.

Now… aside from the fact that he was on TV the fact that he was dressed fairly well and was a bit pudgy tells me that wasn’t the Jesus I’m learning about, just sayin’ 😃

Hmmmm… Interesting thought. I never pictured it quite like that; as a full blown rapture.

Two thousand years ago, the Jews expected the Messiah to be a great military leader who would vanquish their enemies. Instead, Christ came from humble beginnings (born in a manger and all that), preached a message of peace and love, and won over the hearts and minds of the people with his charisma.

I’ve never been a biblical literalist who bought into the whole Revelations thing with the thunder, lightening, fire and brimstone and all that. So I sort of figured the Second Coming would also be a little more subtle. Which is why I raised the question.

I don’t believe Jesus every made any claims to being the Messiah, so I would certainly be wary of some Johnny-come-lately claiming to be Christ reincarnate. Still, if He takes the low-profile approach again, we could very well miss it.

Well, he didn’t fully win them over until they saw him after he rose from the dead. Without that, charisma would not have outlasted the first persecutions. The crucifixion would have pretty much put and end to it.

Jesus did claim to be the Messiah, read his response to John’s disciples in Mathew 11. Note the question he was answering and note that these miracles were fortold about the messiah in Isaiah. It is very clear.

As to Him taking a low-profile approach on His second coming, not what I would expect. He came last time as a teacher, this next time he is coming as a judge. In the creed we say “He shall come again **in glory **to judge the living and the dead.” This does not sound too low-profile to me.

The second coming will be at the ‘end of the world’ so there is nothing usual about it. Jesus will not be coming as a human being, he will be the King of kings and the Lord of lords and he will judge the world, whether we like it or not. We cannot possibly miss him as each and everyone of us will come under his judgment. It will be nothing like the Epiphany two thousand years ago so it will not be low key this time around for sure. All Christians are prepared for this and hopefully when the time come we will be worthy of his judgment.

personally I always look sharply at the poor Indian woman surrounded by little kids who is begging on street corners of Mexican border towns, because that is where I expect to see Him. If I were in Calcutta I would be looking at the untouchables dying in alleys, if I were in the Sudan I would look at the child soldier trying to get back to his home. You don’t really have to wait for the second coming, you can see him today, in the flesh, rummaging through the garbage dumpsters in any American city.
