Second Coming

I apologize for not having the verse ,but in the readings for Mass recently the Lord speaks of his coming again and says the day and time are known only to the Father! How could this be inspired verse from the Holy Spirit and renounce the Son’s omnipotent status??

Jesus was both fully human and fully divine. If someone does not recognize this, they can say, ‘If Jesus is God and God knows everything, then Jesus has to know when the second coming is. If He does not know, then He cannot be God.’

Paul says that Jesus was like us in all ways except sin. He limited His human understanding to match ours. That was is fully human side.

Second as to your question - Here’s a thought. As God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit could know the day and hour, because they know all things. Perhaps out of deference to the Father they choose NOT to know it and decided that among the Godhead? Just as Jesus chose to limit Himself in some ways when He was physically here, to what the Father showed Him. Just a thought…

Hi,
In the Jerusalem Bible there is a footnote on this. It says, “nor the Son”, probably for theological reasons, Christ as man received from the Father the knowledge of everything that had to do with his mission but, as he explicitly asserts in this passage, he could be ignorant of certain elements in the divine plan. Mt. 24;36
