Second day of Creation--Basin

I think it is the Second Day of Creation, what is the Hebrew for Basin? How often is it used in the O. T.?

How is it translated in the LXX?

Does the Greek for the Hebrew of Basin appear in the N. T.? If so, where?

You might want to check out the Blue Letter Bible site. blueletterbible.org/ It may be able to help you with a lot of your questions. It is a Protestant site so it does not include the deuterocanonical books.

For example, type in Gen 1:6 and select a version. The text will be displayed starting with your verse. To the left of the text there are several options. Click on ‘C’. This displays the verse in the original language with it broken down word-by-word. You can click on the Strong’s number to access more reference material. In the OT it also includes the LXX version but doesn’t break it down word-by-word.

It’s a great tool.

Hi Jim,

I’m not sure of the word you are looking for… I don’t see the word “basin” in Genesis. There is a Hebrew word for basin, it’s “saph” ( סף), and it shows up as various forms around 30 times in the OT. Most notably, in Exodus 12:22, as Moses tells the elders to dip the hyssop in the blood of the lamb that is in the basin. Note, some English translations use the word “bason” rather than “basin,” but the Hebrew word essentially means bowl, cup, or vessel that contains something.

Not sure on the Greek, I’d have to research that, but first wanted to see if that’s the word you meant.
