Second reading
1 Corinthians 6:13-15,17-20
The body is not meant for fornication: it is for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. God, who raised the Lord from the dead, will by his power raise us up too.
You know, surely, that your bodies are members making up the body of Christ; do you think I can take parts of Christ’s body and join them to the body of a prostitute? Never! But anyone who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.
Keep away from fornication. All the other sins are committed outside the body; but to fornicate is to sin against your own body. Your body, you know, is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you since you received him from God. You are not your own property; you have been bought and paid for. That is why you should use your body for the glory of God.

I found this reading very overwhelming and it’s one of my favorite readings.
“You know, surely, that your bodies are members making up the body of Christ;” and
Your body, you know, is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you since you received him from God. “You are not your own property; you have been bought and paid for.” So very moving such a powerful reading, thoughts?

It struck me too and made me feel a bit bad about the tattoo but to be honest I like to think that God doesn’t judge us on how we look and the tattoo is a Peace Dove.

My next RCIA meeting is at least 2 weeks away and there is a Eucharistic Service on tomorrow as Father is away. That reading is certainly straight to the point and after reflecting on it I actually gained comfort, not fear.

verse 16 which is left out is also interesting. I guess our reading have to be G rated.

We should listen closely and take hold of that message, because it will rarely if ever be heard in secular media (film, TV, popular music, novels). I am pleased that the priest celebrating Mass on Sunday spoke in his homily about the second reading and sexual morality. He didn’t avoid what some church members would find uncomfortable. Well said, Father! 👍 If people don’t hear it in church, where will they hear it?

It really bothers me when editors try to bowdlerize the Bible. It’s like they think they know better than the Holy Spirit.

But . . . that’s another topic. Back to the OP – how would our actions and word differ if we were to run them through the filter of the content of these verses? Much, I should think.

It reminds me of this poem attributed to St. Teresa of Avila, which is also very powerful to meditate on.

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
