Inspired and emboldened by the tremendous public support for marriage last year and the incredible “value voter” turnout in the last election, the Senate is poised once again to take action to protect marriage. When the Senate returns to business at the end of this month, Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO) will reintroduce an amendment to the Constitution that will define marriage as between one man and one woman. Reasonable people would agree that defining marriage in this way is as obvious as declaring water wet. The extraordinary step of enshrining this definition in the Constitution is necessary because homosexual activists and agenda-driven judges hope to redefine marriage. The amendment can expect additional support from many of the new senators that you helped elect last November. I also hope President Bush will continue to support the amendment by giving his vocal endorsement during his State of the Union address next month.
