There is undoubtedly something about this that I don’t understand or just don’t know. But I don’t actually see a connection between wealth inequalities with environmental pollution, let alone with climate change or science.

As we know, the old Soviet Union was really poor. Relatively speaking, Russia still is. Relatively speaking, the U.S. is greatly more wealthy. And yet, when it comes to the ecology, Russia is terribly befouled while the U.S. environment is much better and improving. Wealthy Germany’s environment is well kept while that of poor Romania is not.

I recognize that those who are greatly concerned about climate change focus of the use of fossil fuels rather than, e.g., dumping of nuclear waste in Russia or destruction of the Aral Sea by poor land management. But that focus depends entirely on what really amounts to an “article of faith”, i.e., that CO2 emissions are excessive and will have catastrophic consequences beyond all other causes.

That being the case, and given that most “international” programs to combat fossil fuel emissions are basically a tax on wealthy countries for the benefit of rulers of poor ones, one cannot be greatly blamed for being wary of such things as the pursuit of “integral ecology”.

I think scientists agree too much fossil fuel burning creates pollution which is a problem, and that inadequate handling of radioactive materials creates pollution and is also a problem. To call either an “article of faith” is probably an attempt to belittle the issue.

Telling bishops across the whole world to prepare press conferences seems like it might be more than a nothing burger.
They need to get their indigenous persons, youth ministers, and climate change experts lined up for their big press conferences.

I hope nobody brings Pachamama.

The ACTUAL coming exhortation… not a nothing burger.

This false and misleading hit job of an article (Rorate)… definite nothing burger.

Completely false.

Fact: the members of the Synod were not “handpicked” by Pope Francis. They were, for the most part, the bishops of the region plus 13 heads of the Roman Curia, 15 members elected by the Union of Superiors General, and other assorted extras.
The “Assorted Extras” invited by REPAM included politicians such as Nilto Tatto, Airton Faleiro, Hélder Salomão of the Labor Party; Camilo Capiberibe and Bira do Pindaré of the Socialist Party of Brazil; and Jandira Feghali of the Communist Party of Brazil.
In 2015, Jandira Feghali opposed legislation to make infanticide among indigenous peoples a crime, arguing that it constituted interference in their autonomy.
The six politicians met with several synod fathers from Brazil, including Bishops Antonio Maria da Silva, vice-president of the Brazilian bishops’ conference, Evaristo Spengler of Marajó, and Roque Paloschi of Roraima, president of the Missionary Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIMI), one of the key recipients of Ford Foundation funding. (The American Ford Foundation, whose board members include former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, has financed CIMI and other REPAM-affiliates to the tune of over 2 million dollars.)

Accordingly, as was previously done with Laudato si’ (2015), Amoris Laetitia (2016), Gaudete et Exsultate (2018) and Christus Vivit (2019), the Holy Father would like the local Ordinaries to receive the text directly, before it is published and before the world press starts to comment on it, and join him in presenting the Exhortation and making it accessible to the faithful, to fellow believers and all people of good will, and to the media, the academic world, and others in positions of authority and influence
There is nothing new in bringing in people who can help make this accessible to all, The quote from this confidential letter clearly states

As WAS DONE Before.
Well… so much for that request! 😦
Gotta love leaks.
I question the morality of re-printing a letter that the Holy See EXPLICITLY asked me kept confidential.
I question the morality of media that publish this into the public arena, and their agenda.
I also question why people are just reading headlines and not reading the article itself.

No the “assorted extras” did not include the said politicians. You will find a full list of participants here. What you’re actually referring to is a “side meeting” between the six politicians and six synod participants which was not part of the formal synod proceedings.

Are you privy to the minutes of this side meeting? I am not and would appreciate knowing what was discussed.
