I see that there are several SFO’s on here. Although I am only a Catholic candidate (will be recieved at Easter), I have been attracted to the Thrid Order for some time. Long before I considered Catholicism, I admired St. Francis. I remember reading about him in high school and being quite inspired.

Am I thinking about this prematurely? What can you tell me about the order that I may need to know? I’ve already looked at many of their web sites.

The key thing for you to do is (1) Examine the Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order carefully and (2) Decide if that is how you want to live your life.

You probably want to visit the local fraternities and see if one suits you. Different local fraternities may have very different ways of operating so find one that suits you.

Thanks, I’ll do that. I’ve already contacted the local fraternity and found out when and where they meet.

That should be the best way to go. The discernment process is well established and should be of great help to you in determining if you are really called to the Franciscan lifestyle.

In peace,
