Much like the thread “Secular Songs for Jesus”, this thread will take a look at seemingly secular TV shows and films and find nuggets of truth about God, love, truth, beauty, and heroic virtue hidden in them. Remember that “catholic” means “universal” and Truth (thus God) can be found anywhere. Enjoy and share your own. 🍿

Superman 1 & Superman Returns
Jor-El and Kal-El… El means God in Hebrew
Jor-El sends his son to earth as a saviour.
Superman Returns goes one further and shows Superman falling back to earth in the Crucifixion pose after he sacrificed himself to save Metropolis from the “new krypton”.

Superman 2(any version) -
“Of cause he’s Jewish”
General Zod is leader of an “unholy trinity” and even at one point equates himself to God. He is the Lucifer of this story. He fell our of favour with Krypton and was kicked out to be imprisoned in the phantom zone till fate released him.

Not only does it contain the symbolism stated above, but this version restored Marlon Brando’s scenes as Jor-El, which led to the addition of a sensational and highly spiritual moment when Superman asks his father(as the hologram) for help in restoring his powers. Jor-EL reveals he anticipated Superman would face such a trial of faith and ultimately it was needed(as it ultimately revealed the only way Zod could be finally defeated), and only now he reveals there is one way to restore Kal-El to his powers. The Kryptonian prophecy “a father becomes a Son, a Son becomes a Father” must be finally fully fulfilled. Superman watches in shock as his father materializes in front of him, reaches out to touch him on the shoulder and baptizes him with the last pure kryptonian energy which kept his hologram alive… They become one spiritually.
