I’m a former Protestant and apostate who has decided to convert to Catholicism. Through extensive research, I have studied Catholic Christianity and I know that God is calling me to the true faith. However, I’ve ran into sedevacantism, and here are questions I have regarding their points, and whether or not I should convert to Catholicism or Sedevacantism.
Pro (Sedevacantist): Apparently, the words of consecration for the Eucharist have been changed from “for many” to “for all.” Yet I heard that Vatican II did not actually implement that change, it has just been an abuse by bad priests. The point is that you cannot change the words/meaning of the Eucharistic consecration, or else you invalidate the mass.
The mass in general has been changed. I personally do not understand why Vatican II decided to do this. Apparently it was to “modernize” the Church, but modernization implies that one follows the fashions of the world, a path completely against the teachings of Christ. In my opinion, the Vatican II mass still feels like a traditional mass, so why change it anyway? Can’t we just stick with the Tri Mass?
Con (Sedevacantist):
Many of them are delusional. There is this one website called doomsdaytube.com, which basically predicted the end of the world in 2012. That obviously didn’t happen, which gives me a strange impression on sedevacantism.
Many of them also defend their argument on the fact that Rome is no longer the seat of the Church using unapproved prophecies and the unapproved secrets of Our Lady of La Salette. Though the apparition itself was approved, the seers went on to lead lives contrary to most witnesses of Marian apparitions. Rather than become more religious, the girl wrote secrets in which Our Lady allegedly said “Rome will become the seat of the AntiChrist,” and that “The Church will be in eclipse [hidden]”. They use the latter quote to argue that the current Church is hidden and that the “Catholic” church in Rome is heretical. Yet what they don’t realize is that these secrets were condemed by the PreVatican II Church. Therefore, those secrets are useless to their argument, along with the other false prophecies they use, such as the alleged ones of St. Nilus.
Sorry for the long thread, but the point of my post is that I’m gravely confused spiritually. I don’t know whether or not to become Catholic because of the sedevacantists arguments. Some of them make sense, while others are based on lies and false prophecies. Help anyone?
