Yes. The attempt to derail it seems to have started a [post=5685725]while ago[/post].

The OP was about the sedia gestatoria, which is a perfectly valid (and innocent) topic for this forum. I was (and am) offended by the attempt to derail it which also cast unfair and uncharitable aspersion on PP Benedict XVI.

I think the papal tiara is good. However, I think the sedia gestatoria is taking it a little too far. It really is way too pompous and bombastic in my opinion. Stick to the popemobile.

The “popemobile” is just a bit too clinical for my taste. Admittedly, it may be practical for a variety of reasons, but it’s cachet is not even close to that of the sedia. Now, the tiara could be construed as pompous, but I don’t see the sedia that way at all.
