Someone posted a website earlier that was a sedvanticist site.

How did this sedvanticism come to be? What is so horribly wrong with Vatican II in their minds that they consider the holy see to by empty?

Also, they list the “heresies” of Benedict XVI in a pdf. Do Catholics consider Jews to be heretics?

Is there any good source anyone could point me to about these sedvanticists?

Thanks,

Bryan

I looked it up, to be a heretic, you must be baptized in the Church.

So Jews are apostates not heretics, they are Jews (who must be converted).

Here is a Catholic encyclopedia article: here

What in the world is sedvanticism? I realize it’s heresy of some sort, but Google isn’t turning up anything and neither is the Catholic Encylopedia or any of my dictionaries.

It’s spelled wrong. Try “sedevacantism” (Latin sede vacante).

Many Councils throughout history have had those that rejected them and the Popes who approved them. The Old Catholics rejected Vatican I, for example, or the non-Chalcedonians (now knowns as Oriental Orthodox) delcared St. Leo the Great and the Council of Chalcedon to be heretics and separated from the Church.

The thing that makes sedevacantists unique is that hold to the permenance of the Roman See. Previous groups simply held that the See of Rome was no longer part of the Church. Sedevacantists hold that the Roman See is still part of the Church in theory, but that the person occupying it are not part of the Church.

Oh, and as an aside, Jews are neither heretics nor apostates–they’re Jews. You have to have previously professed the Catholic faith to become an apostate and you have to be baptized to be a heretic. Jews are neither–while they do not profess the one true religion because they do not ackowledge the Messiah, they have always been given a “classification” of their own, so to speak (they were not considered heathen or infidel really either when those terms used).

Why do these guys think that there is no current Pope? It seems that Vatican II should be as valid as Vatican I
I’m not sure, but for some reason they believe we all fell into heresy with Vatican II. I don’t really know enough about Vatican II to say why. I would like to learn more, if someone else here knows what exactly they rejected.
