What is the first step, where to start, to finding and scheduling an appointment to meet with an exorcist for treatment?

I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong category.

Peace.

First talk to your pastor and explain the situation to him.
If he thinks it is nessecary, he will talk to your diocese. Exorcism is a complicated and serious rite and not one that someone should ‘dial up’ on request.

This.

Your pastor first, then he will proceed. It is very UNlikely that you need an exorcist. In spite of what you see on YouTube, possession is a very rare thing. Your priest will advise you.

First your priest has to believe you need an appointment.
The identity of Exorcists in your Diocese are kept strictly confidential to avoid crazies form randomly contacting them.
There’s lots of evaluations involved beofre you’d talk to one too.
Trust you priest and confide in him. He may be able to help without going any further.

What if our pastor is one who dismisses things with “Jesus loves you and don’t worry.” I don’t mean to sound flippant, but he may not take this concern seriously.

Just to clarify: we have not approached our pastor, but our assumption is based on his style, both in his homilies and personally.

Peace.

I hope you’re able to find someone to talk about this with.

I’ve had problems in the past, going to my parish and two others and being blown off like I was a nut.

If I pray, go to church, and meditate with my rosary, things are okay. If I lapse, things start happening. IE: scratches all over my body (In places I can’t even reach), bruising and hand prints on my neck in the middle of the night, hearing muffled voices, blacking out for periods at a time with no idea how long I’ve been out, but being told I was carrying on in anger.

I don’t think a lot of the churches know how to handle these types of situations.

Pray you get the answers and help you need.

Be persistent with your priest.
If that does not work, go to your diocese directly.

A few questions for you:
  1. Are you going to Mass and receiving Holy Communion at least every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation?
  2. Are you going to confession on a regular (i.e. monthly) basis, and immediately when conscious of grave sin?
  3. Are you praying daily?
If you’re not already doing at least these three things, an exorcist will be unable to help any further. Start with these three things, then, as others have rightly noted, talk to your pastor.

He will probably take it seriously, but do not be surprised if his recommendation is that you first seek help from a psychiatrist or psychologist. Psychological problems have to be ruled out before an exorcism takes place.

If that fails, and your pastor does not take you seriously, you may contact the diocese and ask them what the next steps should be.

Peace.

Before thinking of contacting an exorcist one needs to ask why one would need to. Possession is very rare. Obsession and infestation are more common but can be dealt with without involving an exorcist. When one is going to mass regularly AND confession and praying and staying in a state of grace one doesn’t have to worry about possession. You could ask your priest to do a house blessing. Confess ALL your sins in confession. Name them and ask the priest to bind any demons behind the sins. Perhaps schedule an appointment with your priest outside regular confession time to allow you to do this. All priests can say deliverance and binding prayers. Of course if you do all this and the problems persist then one could ask ones priest to contact the appointed exorcist to look into things further.

I would expect that you would be treated seriously I don’t think you would expect to be treated as a "Crazy " I’m pretty sure that I know who the exorcist is in our diocese and if it is who I think it is he’s a very intelligent man . One note prone to call people crazy and seriously takes people’s spiritual and mental welfare to heart and is a great man to talk to

I would start as others have said with the local Priest

You don’t.

You start with your local pastor; or the pastor of the place where something is happening.

The pastor visits. If he thinks there is a reason, he goes to the bishop. The bishop is the only one who contacts the exorcist.

Thank you all for your responses. We will go to our pastor first and go from there. Initially, I didn’t believe he would take this seriously, but I now understand that we need to follow the chain of command and the necessary protocols.

Peace.

If your pastor does not take you seriously, there is an alternative. Call your diocese. Ask if there is an exorcist with whom you can speak, or a deliverance ministry.

what do you mean? Demons exist, and there should be (and therefore are) methods of expelling them.

How do you know this person is demon possessed? Could have any number of mental disorders. The first step is to find an exorcist?

no. Not at all.

Pastors know how to discern between psychiatric illness and spiritual illness.
Personally, I feel that going straight to a secular psychiatrist with any possible demonic activity would only get me into a rubber room faster.

EDIT This is incorrect. See Post 25.
