They may sound like attacks, but it’s hard for me to be silent because I have received so much benefit that I like to encourage people to try “radically” imagining the words. None of us are perfect, but there comes a time when it gets easy. Psychology calls it “flow.” I compare it to “the kingdom” although I don’t claim they are the same thing. I get kind of pressured like shouting from the mountain tops, etc. I was very psychotic and was healed. Your path and mine are different, but they are crossing and I believe that everything ends up being for the good. So it’s up to the Holy Spirit to take it from here.I am honestly tired and a beginner of the faith, sometimes responses like yours sound like attacks and can be VERY DISCOURAGING.
Well I appreciate your often well-written, lengthy responses. I know I can be a little resistant to new ideas. They may sound like attacks, but it’s hard for me to be silent because I have received so much benefit that I like to encourage people to try “radically” imagining the words. Don’t worry about the deadly sins thing though – that was from Fr. Barron, not me. Plus I quit half way through the class so I got the gist but don’t know all the detail. So I found it useful to put the sinful tendencies into categories, but frankly even though I learn a lot from Fr. Barron I kind of keep my guard up because he comes off just a bit too establishment for me at times.
The only thing that draws my interest in writing them, is that based on the way your OP’s are worded, titled, and the way you discuss things, there is value. You have an open enough mind, I believe, to delve into something new even if you are resistant. So you may be resistant, but not closed off.Well I appreciate your often well-written, lengthy responses. I know I can be a little resistant to new ideas.
It’s OK to look at it that way.The Christian life is a journey, not a transformation.
Yes, and I think Rom 7 talks a bit about how confused Paul gets. He does not want to sin, but he does what he does not want to do. So he concludes that it is the sin in him that is doing it… something like that. you can read if you want. There is never an excuse for sinning, yet we Christians (are still humans) will sin.
I agree with this. That’s why I’m not a moralist, as much as a “mental conditioning” focused. Like the gospel John has more “inner teachings” than the others. I’m into how to think about enemies, and stuff like that. As far as sinning myself? I can’t say that I don’t sin according to anyone’s standard. Nor do I expect others to. If you do something to me, we can discuss it but if you do something “against God” then I’m not here to judge. I may offer to listen to a story but I try not to throw stones even by accident, if I can help it.That is why I see it differently than you. I would not expect any Christians to always be models of virtue. That is a promise I cannot keep on the daily. If people were perfect, no need for repentance or forgiveness.
My wish to is hold nobody to any standard, except myself to have a desire to do the best thing, whatever I may think the best thing is at that time – even if I fail.It does not make sense to me, if I hold Christians to a higher standard, I become disappointed, I am lectured that I should not expect so much from other people after all they are just humans. This includes myself, I ultimately I am only humans as well. I will do what can with what I am given. I do not care to understand lofty ideas. I am honestly tired and a beginner of the faith, sometimes responses like yours sound like attacks and can be VERY DISCOURAGING.
Who can claim to be greater than another, given all that? We, who believe have died with Christ, His
Spirit, who died w/ Him is now living in us!
So we have a higher calling to holiness than
ALL WHO WENT BEFORE. As St. Peter
said: “He himself bore our sins on His own
body on the tree SO THAT we might die
to sin and live for righteousness” 1 Pet. 2:24
and “By His wounds YOU HAVE BEEN
HEALED” We have been healed of our
concupiscenses!!
Get what? What is the “it” that these people get? How do you define “strong”?I am not talking about money or beauty-wise. Sometimes it is difficult for me to see the value in people who are not as strong as others. Some people are outspoken, tough, logical, opinionated, very independent, smart, grounded and down-to-earth. They get it. They seem invincible. They are intelligent enough to commit sins that will haunt them later. Or maybe some people regret things less. Some people are so slow - they wallow, they cannot forget things, they have low self-esteem, they are stuck in a cycle or a bad habit. As much I am all for free-will. it seems certain things come easier for certain people. Some people are natural go-getters. They are mature. Some people seem to take forever to finally get it. The clock is ticking. Life does not last forever, nor does youth.
