Seeking Advice of Reading the OT: Priority Books

My wife and I had been reading a chapter a night of the NT before our prayers and finished a couple of nights ago. We’ve moved on to the OT now and have decided not to read in order from Genesis to Malachi since it would take almost three years to finish.

We’ve both read Genesis and are working on Exodus independently. For now we’re reading the Psalms together. But which other books, in your opinion, should we prioritize? Proverbs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel are on my short list for now.
 
Dr. Scott Hahn and Jeff Cavins (EWTN, Our Father’s Plan) have suggested reading the books that carry the salvation story as a way of getting a quick perspective. They can be read in about three months and are:

Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1st & 2nd Samuel, 1st & 2nd Kings, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Maccabees.
 
The book of Daniel might be a book that may seem to contain familiar New Testament thoughts that you may recall from your past reading, especially from the book of Revelation. I have always enjoyed the book of Jonah, which is a book that the Lord made reference to in the Gospels.
