I live in the Philippines. I’m no political expert but I’ve read enough history books and occasional newspapers to say this: The moment your correspondent attempted to shy away from the corruption issue is the moment you should have stopped arguing or even reading.
People have gone as far as to say that even the time of dictator Ferdinand Marcos had a better economy compared to what we’ve had for the past decade. I have to say though, at least our currency is stronger now compared to when the people voted that dropout Erap into office.
I turn on the TV here and all I see is government corruption sticking its hands into everything that has made living here so costly. Electricity. Water. Gas. Food. Our exports. Our national debt. The list can go on.
And here I am now, reading another Pinoy saying we should ‘put the corruption issue aside’? Who is he trying to fool? Engineer or not, all I see is someone trying to ignore the elephant in the room and focusing on a tiny speck of mud its trailed. (And by tiny speck, I mean that tiny speck
only.)
