IMHO, I don’t know if I’d say I’d take Fr. Mike’s stuff with a “grain of salt” but I’ve seen some of his Ascension stuff that’s kind of an “eye-roll”. Specifically his video on “mixed”-marriages.
This doesn’t have to do with the Church teaching on mixed marriages.
Her boyfriend is a sedevacantist. They reject the Pope, do not follow the teaching of the official Church and are way way more negative on mixed marriages than anything Fr. Mike ever said.

Having said that, Bishop Barron is probably the better source to consult on mixed marriage topics in general. I agree Fr. Mike’s views would not be all that helpful to someone who is not Catholic and trying to learn about this topic.

Agreed, when she said that…the thread took a hard right.

I was saying my wife and I have found a few of his videos a bit “eye-roll”, the video I used was just an example.

Yes, i wouldn’t really recommend him to a non-Catholic on the mixed marriage topic. The person is likely to just walk away thinking they are not welcome.

Really? I have never heard Father Mike on the subject of mixed marriages. I was speaking about learning about Catholicism in general. I have always found him to be very interesting and informative.

The first one I watched was on mixed-marriages. We both found it misleading and stereo-typing of non-Catholics. Haven’t watched more than maybe one more because of that.

You are in a tough situation. My advice would be to take your boyfriend out of the picture for a minute and consider if you want to learn more about the Church for yourself. I say this because if you do and end up becoming Catholic (assuming you are not already one), you (hopefully) would not be attending the sedevacantist church that he attends, so you wouldn’t be converting for him either way.

There are Latin Masses throughout the US that are in full communion with Rome (who don’t reject the current pope), so in this case, one really can have his cake and eat it too. You don’t have to choose between Latin Mass and being faithful to the true Church that Christ started.

If I were in your position, I would first check to see if there is a Latin Mass apostolate near you, the two largest are called FSSP and ICKSP. Then see if they have a convert/catechism class. If so, you are most welcome to sit in on them. The reason I suggest these over your regular neighborhood parish is that these are closer to what your boyfriend attends so you’ll be able to relate better.

But I agree with the others that learning Catholicism from sedevacantists is not a good idea. A lot of what you’ll learn will be accurate but a lot won’t be - and you won’t be able to tell the difference.
