I’ve been trying to establish a prayer life that I feel called to. What I think I’m trying to do is have it be disciplined but not legalistic, be the focus on my life but not an exercise in pridefulness. It’s a tall order.
If you suggest a specific disciplined or order, thanks ill take a look. but what is about that approach that helps guide it to be meaningful yet grounded?
Thanks, MM

I’m very fond of the Liturgy of the Hours. It’s the prayer of the Church, so even if you are praying alone, you are praying in union with the whole Church. It sanctifies each day and also keeps you in sync wit the liturgical year. The prayers center on the Psalms which I think are beautiful prayers. It also allows a lot of flexibility. You could start by praying once a day – morning prayer, for example – then add other hours as you wish. You can get started easily witb the free iBreviary app.

I suggest praying the full 15 decade Rosary each day with the Joyful Mysteries in the morning, Sorrowful Mysteries in the afternoon, and Glorious Mysteries in the evening. Why the Rosary? Pope Leo XIII said it best: “The Rosary is the most excellent form of prayer and the most efficacious means of attaining eternal life. It is the remedy for all our evils, the root of all our blessings. There is no more excellent way of praying.”

“The Rosary is the most beautiful and the most rich in graces of all prayers; it is the prayer that touches most the Heart of the Mother of God…” -Pope Pius X

“The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary. There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” - Sr. Lucia of Fatima
