Seeking to bring back lapsed Catholics and to convert nonCatholics

Around the world, the Legion of Mary is one of the few, maybe the only, Catholic organization going from door-to-door to invite lapsed Catholic back to the Sacraments and to make friends with nonCatholics and invite them to convert.

The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church, with about 3 million active members in almost every country of the world. The Legion of Mary has been active in the United States (USA) since 1931, has been approved by 7 Popes, and was endorsed by the Second Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

Members of the Legion of Mary become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service in a family atmosphere. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, visitation of the sick or aged, Christian education, visiting the newly baptized, visiting families, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. Legionaries are under the guidance of a spiritual director named by the pastor. The Legion of Mary is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor.

Members meet weekly for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. Then members do two hours of definite work each week in pairs and under the guidance of their spiritual director.

There is a legion of Mary going to start up in Escondido, California. I wish I still lived there to get involved.

There is no chance of it starting in my parish.

It seems like a great way to spread the faith and get involved.

maybe in your parish. here it is 4-5 people who meet weekly to say the rosary, have resisted welcoming new people who want to join, and don’t do any active evangelizing, and are not interested, after several approaches from pastoral staff, in heading up or participating in such an effort. They are all active in other parish ministries, but do not see direct evangelization as part of their call.

I am getting involved in a mini something soon for the kids, but- the ONLY reason I am “allowed” into the ruling “click” for this is they are DESPERATE as its a summer thing, and none of the major Clickers are wanting to ruin their summers actually doing something that is a needed thing.

I pray we can move soon. My parish is very unhealthy.
