Last night as I was channel surfing I came across a “documentary” about Jesus’s ministry and passion…

I have never in my entire life seen anything so poorly done! I am used to grabbing a bible as I watch these things to verify the story and verses… but this one took the cake… I don’t think they got anything in the right order, even DH was commenting on it.

Anyway, according to this show… John the Baptist was in jail before Jesus came to be baptized… which they never showed btw… so from jail he sends someone to ask Jesus if he is the one… they comment he is in jail for what he said about the king marrying his brothers wife. OK… from there they never show the 40 days in the desert or the wedding at Cana, but go straight into Jesus raising a little girl from death… then naming disciples (which they called apostles even though they were not apostles yet) and they show Judas talking to the High priests about betraying Jesus… in the first 5 minutes!!! The order of everything was off… it was terrible!!!

How can anyone take this stuff seriously when you can pick up a Bible and see what a mess this was historically? I really was disappointed in this show! Nothing made sense, the typical things that we learn about certain verses was not there or so twisted it seemed that the message just wasn’t the same. Jesus sounded sarcastic at times and so totally “let’s all be nice” it was confusing.

It was so messed up! Literally they confused the parables in the worst way… the woman was healed in the temple on Sunday (you know, the one who touched hid robes in the streets), Mary Magdalene washed Jesus’s feet with her tears at dinner at Zechiahs’s house? The Sermon on the Mount was along the road as he chose the apostles… and even a part where Jesus explains a parable in the bible… the character Jesus asked the followers to interpret scripture instead… WOW… oh… and the followers just grabbed food from the baskets instead of the disciples passing out the food to feed the thousands. The whole meaning behind alot of this was just lost…

My question is, how can any Christian take this seriously when it was so seriously flawed? How could TBN even show this? Shouldn’t they know the Bible just a little bit better than to allow such errors to be taught?
 
I tend to avoid most of those channels. My parents have them all on their local cable provider and programed into their TV (I need to delete them.) But once in awhile, it’s amusing to watch their pretty and slick preachers talking. Notice how their churches don’t even look like churches, there isn’t even a cross in sight? It’s all about the preacher.

I did, however, catch a more interesting three-part special on the Discovery Channel last night. It seemed to be tracing the life of Jesus from a historical as well as biblical perspective. They talked with scholars, archaeologists and other historians. No Catholic historians or scholars though. But I suspect it was a much better production than what you watched. I’d seen the third part where they basically proved the Crucifixion (or how Jesus died on the cross) and what he most likely looked like by using a 2,000-year old-skull of a Jewish man as a basis to recreate an image of a typical man of the time.

What I found interesting is that they actually could find places that were mentioned in the bible and proved them as historical fact that they existed. They even suspected that they knew where St. Peter lived. I liked that even in reference from the non-Catholic (I suspect they were Jewish) scholars and historians that they called him St. Peter. Most of the non-Catholic specials don’t recognize Peter and Paul as Saints.
 
TBN rarely has good programming…this coming from a protestant.
 
Every so often TBN will have a program worth watching. but I don’t think it is worth the waiting for them and having to endure so much bad.

espeicially with EWTN having so much good. One thing you can depend on EWTN for is that it is usually doctrinally sound, but the protestant channels are just all over the place.

Amen to that!!! I love alot of the shows on EWTN. Like I said, I was channel surfing… my bad!!!
 
since we don’t have a name or link to the actual program itself, no way to know if it is something TBN produced itself, or just a re-run of a program produced elsewhere, like the History channel, so don’t really know who to blame. I do agree if you are looking for Catholic programming you will not look at networks of other denominations.
 
There was a very well done show about a week ago on the devil. It included commentary on Dante’s Inferno and the Screwtape letters.

I thought about calling the local channel and complimenting them, just to encourage that sort of programming.
