Self Defense: definition?

Where does self-defense become deterrence? Where does deterrence become revenge? Is deterrence OK?
How about fantasizing about revenge, keeping it hypothetical, not a plan, not a wish? Fantasizing about deterrence, to figure out what would hypothetically work? Are these OK?
And how about verbal self-defense? Calling a lie a lie is just telling the truth, but what about calling a liar a liar? Is that being judgmental or just accurate?

Interesting question.
I will apply what the Church teaches about homosexuality to your question.

People who commit homosexual sins are sinful people in need of God’s grace and redemption. They commit a sin of homosexuality. But in our Church we don’t label people homosexuals.

I would say the same would go for the person who commits lies. Also a sinful person in need of God’s grace and redemption.

Or, when you’ve reached the spiritual maturity, that you can over come your opponent with reason.

Where does deterrence become revenge?

Never. Revenge is revenge and will only produce hatred.

Is deterrence OK?

Of course

Eventually you’ll use some form of it.

Never keep hatred in your heart. Always, be willing to forgive.

And how about verbal self-defense? Calling a lie a lie is just telling the truth, but what about calling a liar a liar?

For a lie to be a lie, a person must know in their heart, that they are telling a non-truth, and doing it with the purpose of deception.

Being you don’t know the heart, calling a person a liar, could be a sin on your part, being you don’t have the complete truth.

Is that being judgmental or just accurate?

If anything, its uncharitable and not helpful for the person.

Always be open to help the person become better.
