At times we have to look back to go on and sometimes we need the thoughts of others so,
I notice that most of the main actions that the saints undertook and that was done alone is “self denial”, along with hours of prayer.
Is self denial a cross?
Are there any of you who do self denial?

God bless

I don’t eat meat on Fridays.

I think there are several kinds of “self denial” that can be pursued…

There’s the obvious… food and material goods… denying yourself of these types of desires…

And then there is denying yourself of your “wishes or desires”. In other words, allowing other peoples opinions and wants to be the priority…
For example… the concept of “controling” a situation. There are many people who tend to be “control freaks” (as it were).

Denying yourself control over a situation can also be a form of “self denial”…

Would you yourself call these denials a form of “self exerted crosses” for a want of words?

Crosses that is other than the ones Jesus gives us at some time He decides.

“Cross against my humanness”?? What does that mean?Fridays are days of Penance and for my penance I choose not to eat meat.
Hi thistle I am just wondering since your denial is such a beautiful act of love of Jesus, would you think that it might be also deemed as a cross, or an act against your humanness.
i’m looking at for instance, St Therese the little flower who would ask for the chance to work with a nun no one wanted to work with. I thought that her act might be considered taking up a cross, or going against her human nature that as the other nuns had not wanted to work with the particular nun she went against her own humanness.
Do you see what I mean, would you call your act of denying your self on Fridays taking up a cross against your human liking of that food?

sory if I am not expressing myself.

God bless
