I really want my parents to be there, though.
Make an Act of Contrition, try not to perform this sin again. Do you pray the rosary, or any other devotion? Maybe when the desire to sin comes to mind you should pray (not particularly easy I know, but life isn’t supposed to be, especially the life of the Christian).Oh, maybe I’ve mislead you. I do go to mass and study Church doctrine- it probably makes up the greater part of my life- I just REALLY, REALLY hate it when I do this particular sin because it feels, to me, as if I;ve given right in to Satan. The sin is outlined in section 2352 of the Catechism.
no one as a rule should undertake any penitential practice including and especially corporal mortification, above and beyond the traditional disciplines of the Church (such as the Lenten fasting rules) without permission of one’s confessor and spiritual director. St. John of the Cross, among other orthodox directors, warns about the faults of beginners in going overboard in this area, and why obedience to one’s director is of more spiritual value than the discipline itself. the main reason is exactly what you state, your feelings, because the individual is not the best judge of the state of his soul, nor the best judge of penance that will be helpful. talk to your priest in confession before even considering such a practice.no, to be honest, I was kinda talking about, like, hitting myself with a belt on the back- I really feel like I deserve that for what I’ve just done. I hope I get punished somehow- cause I really deserve it.
A moderate amount of that kind of thing is not a bad idea. We tend to over-do it with pleasures of every kind – and when that goes into sinful pleasures, some compensating punishment is a good remedy. Again, to a moderate degree, what you mentioned will not do permanent damage and can provide some healing of sin. Moderate fasting also – giving up things you enjoy at times – is something very good to add to this. That kind of self-punishment can help free you from guilt. Confession is the best and fullest remedy, of course, but we still need to make up for sins in the past.no, to be honest, I was kinda talking about, like, hitting myself with a belt on the back- I really feel like I deserve that for what I’ve just done.
