Self reference for figure drawing

Thank-you for your comment. This is exactly the discernment I am going through right now. I honestly want to learn how to figure draw and have had the approval of several priests (all of them good holy, and orthodox), with the added caution that I should tread very carefully. For this reason, I want to reduce seeing other people’s nakedness as much as possible, and to this purpose do I use pictures of myself. However, as you said, I want to avoid any fetish.

I don’t think it is unreasonable that I keep my nakedness secret. I think it’s modesty rather than a sense that I’m doing something wrong.

Figure drawing is a sort of meditation for me on the beauty and grace with which God has made us, a mediation on the image of God.
 
I think you would do yourself a favor to not keep it a secret and simply keep your shorts on; you can do a complete study of the human figure and muscles without having to be completely naked, if not it sounds like you’re trying to rationalize something. Unless you are learning medical anatomy of the reproductive system, but for that there are plenty of illustrated atlases. Keep your shorts and protect yourself from the temptations of impure gazing…
