I think it will all work out in the end without people losing their jobs. They could repurpose the luxery cars for transporting elderly or disabled people to mass in Rome (or something else like that), if they want to keep employing the drivers. Besides, if they are using more taxis, then there will be more work for taxi drivers, and probably more job openings.

All good but,more than one on the transport for the elderly and disabled.

Valid point. Why unemploy the lower-paid people in the process of “helping the poor.”

I guess, but paying someone for a service you don’t need just “because” doesn’t work either. If there is no value added financially, it becomes a net drain on the system. If that were not the case, the Church could simply hire people for meaningless tasks, ala FDR.

You’re right, of course. But then the issue comes up why the Church is hiring anyone at all. I’ve known people (my then-wife was a CPA) who did pro bono work in the parish, organists who wouldn’t accept pay, churchgoing plumbers who fixed bathroom leaks, etc. I even see priests mowing lawns. But I understand a lot of people do need pay too.
