Your most welcome, can I recommend his paper on “works and almsgiving” the whole book/epsitle is a blessing from start to finish, I really hope you will be blessed by this… another good paper is his epistle on ‘the dress of virgins’ I found that convicted me also…
And I will take a look at the desert Fathers and ‘the true bride of Christ’…

Resist the urge to think of the council (or command) to sell your possessions as an indication that Jesus thought the end was near (resist the urge to corroborate that idea with the fact that Jesus said the end was near). Resist the urge to think that this command applies aptly to everyone, because it would be too great to withstand, especially in wealthy, wealthy, North America. Resist the urge to think that in the same way we can justify not living by OT statutes, we can justify not living by NT statutes. Resist the urge to even think about it, if you can. Your faith will thank you for it.

I apologize it you feel I was attacking your character.
Since what I wrote was an exact copy of what you wrote in your “religion” description my post would seem more of a “clarifiaction”, for those who might not look at your profile, than an ad hominem “character attack”.
I also apologize if I missed the “satire” in what you wrote.
Perhaps using a couple of smilies would have helped to better communicate the tone of your post.

“Argument toward the person,” or “Argument against the person.” You didn’t address my post, you said not to listen to what I have to say because of my alleged status. That’s what ad hominem is, so let’s not mince any words. And you are fully capable of understanding the satire (if you are capable of understanding anything) without the smiley faces - certainly you don’t think either that I acctually eat babies, or that I count it as a religious practice. So let’s put aside the passive aggression, because it’s a tired thing, really. I don’t need any apologies for how you think I feel, and I don’t need any apologies for your made-up misunderstandings. If you have something to say about the content, then say it. That’s fair, isn’t it?

Regardless of any possible “satire” in your religious description, you clearly declare yourself an Atheist. As such a person of faith would do well not to listen to you. Especially when the content is non-helpful to the original poster. It is merely a clogged up collection of run-on statements. It has no bearing on where this person finds themselves in their journey. AND if you did read all of the posts here, you will have noted that this person has had issues with mental illness which might require some discression in how one approaches the subject (thus my suggestion to him/her about a spritiual advisor or director).
This person is not questioning their faith. They have a question about a specific part and a specific calling within that faith. Your post is much more focused on questioning faith in general. That is fine, but it is not the purpose or thrust of this particular thread.
If you truly wish to help this person I suggest you could write your posts in a more clear and helpful way than to make a comment such as, "…Resist the urge to even think about it, if you can. Your faith will thank you for it." I guess that is suppose to be more satire as well.
Perhaps I could have responded in a more charitable manner to you. Perhaps you could see more sincerity in my apologies. We’ll probably never know.
Perhaps we can start again. If you have something to post that might be of real value to the OP in their trying to determine the best way to live an austere and Christlike life, please do post it. If that was your intention in your previous post. Perhaps a review and rewording would help communicate that.

Interesting how you choose a single phrase to respond to when the entire thought was this:
What did the OP do when they created this thread?
They asked a question.
They then received a number of answers to the question they asked
What did you do when you responded to the OP?
You did not answer the OP question, but rambled on about questioning faith in general which is not the subject of this thread.
So your comment above about asking questions off base. You claim that we should ask questions while ignoring the fact that the OP did just that. You ronly problem seems to be that they didn’t ask teh question you think that they should.

Agreed. I’m just filling in the blanks. The questions people ask on this forum are really just to confirm what they already believe. It’s healthy to challenge that though, but then I tend to place a lot of value on freethinking, so you know from which angle I speak.Your only problem seems to be that they didn’t ask teh question you think that they should.

One of my concerns about your asking this here was that the OP has some mental health issues and I think we should not be confusing the specific question with bigger ones.
Certainly there are many on here who would are more than willing to discuss/debate any challenge you wish to put forth.
