God bless you! And He will surely provide for you.

I wish you had stuck with it long enough to find out whether Comcast would accomodate you. I have Comcast, and could have quit them in support if they hadn’t. Not that it would have done a lot of good all by myself, but if all Catholics quit in protest, they might sit up and pay attention.

I hope we get A la carte programming soon (choose the channels you want.)

Thanks forall your advices. My Priest said if it was exspecially bothering my conscience I should look for work elsewhere.
I resigned.
🙂 Now jus tneed to find work…👍
Steelhart,

For what it’s worth 1 anonymous online poster thinks that you made the right decision. I hope that you get work, and that the temporary fingers crossed lack of work doesn’t disadvantage you in anyway.

Aetratus,

Good job, as well!

Those are very simplistic solutions but it won’t work for our overall economy. Yes, porn is really big business and the company you may be holding stock in (even through a mutual company) may be heavily involved. I heard some hotel chains sold more porn than Playboy. When I found out they were selling porn, I sold a preferred hotel stock once that was paying over 10% dividends only to invest it in another company that went bankrupt. Meanwhile the hotel is still paying dividends. Go figure.
That is simplistic too. We cannot act on the WHOLE economy.

Going by this dictum, should we all invest in coccaine and marihuana too? It’s 1000 times more lucrative.

The economy runs on aggregate consumer preference. Every person I can convince is like a starfish in the deep wide ocean. But he is MY starfish from there on.

We can act on one person at a time.

Just tuned in to this thread, and I must say that I greatly admire your courage and ethics. If I were an employer, I would be looking for someone exactly like you - who knows what’s right, and does it. You’re building reward for eternity by making the right choice. 👍

I’m the one who just got the job at Comcast, Steelhart worked for a satellite provider. 👍

Hello. I’m a college student and have recently started working for a large satellite company. I learned the other day that soon I will be required to assist customers frequently that call in to help them order hardcore adult pay-per-views.

would you go door to door selling these videos directly to people? then don’t do it over the phone.

keep looking for a job that does force you to abandon your Christian principles.

Steelhart, you made the right decision.
Follow Christ is hard, but it is the right waỵ

I admire your actions.

I’ve been offered 2 jobs this week. One pays over twice as much and the other three times as much. It’s so amazing.
I’ve also signed up with to volunteer with some things, and will be taking my virtus class in a few weeks…and just have a drawing to give of myself to others.

It’s quite a different experience than I’ve ever had. 🙂

I love my Bishop (Loverde) for standing up and saying what had to be said.

. It appears to me that they could hardly fire you for objecting to selling porn channels!
yes then can, it’s a part of the job, and if he refuses to do it, they can fire him. 😦 The place of work selling a service to make money. If someone refuses what the job entails, they can always find someone someone else that will do it.

😃 I converted from a long on/off protestant life in the Bible belt last Easter. I’ve asked allot of family and friends that aren’t Catholic and find I seem to be alone in my thinking. I’m getting things like, “it’s not much different than selling beer or cigarettes, and the will just get it anyhow.” This is really surprising me especially coming from some of the more conservative minded family I have.
I have to ask myself why so many Protestants honestly think I’m not responsible at all.

I did some research and found some of my answers, and a few more questions?

Would I be considered a vendor then?

Some good reading I found…

Wow, that pastoral letter was really good - it should be deseminated in all parishes because pornography really is a modern scourge. Thanks so much for the link and welcome home to the Catholic church.

I agree that letter was excellent, thanks for the link. And welcome home.🙂

I just found this thread this morning, and I have to say I really admire your decision to quit. I am so happy that you have found other jobs, too. Congrats!:extrahappy:

Agreed. You do what you can. My point, however, is how you do that while still being able to survive. On the surface, one might be tempted to say quit that job but where can you go and work for a company that is completely on the high moral ground? That’s the challenge and we’re all in the position to find it.
This is how we got to where we are now. If we don’t take a stand for what is moral and right then everything becomes socially moral and right.
