It’s hard to earn money nowadays. There’s a small canteen that besides selling food also selling cigarettes. It’s owner is a Catholic; and actually he scruples about this. But the business is declining, and he feels that he is forced to do that.
What should he do?
What is church’s teaching about cigarettes and smoking?

A hard call I think, EBC. Nicotine is harmful to health - no doubt about that - but the full moral position may depend on the circumstances of your friend and other factors, I am totally unsure. Putting your question into “Moral Theology” Forum may draw more responses. If it were my personal problem as a seller of cigarettes in my business which was in trouble financially, I would be seeking out the advice of an informed priest on moral matters.
I only gave them up a little over 16 months ago.
