I’ve been selling the Book of Mormon to people over the Internet, I also distribute and sell Protestant Bibles , books and software. Any problems with either since I’m Catholic?

Imagine asking the Lord if it is pleasing to Him. Every single word in a Protestant bible is true. Conversely, the BOM is not a revealed book, thus any Christian would, or perhaps should, have difficulty with selling it - knowing that it leads away from faith in the eternal, divine Christ of the Lord.

You say you are Catholic, but you list Christian as your religion in your profile. Do you know the difference?

There isn’t any difference, since Christian and Catholic were synonomous for centuries. But now, to be accurate, one must say Catholic Christian. It is sufficient, however, to say “Catholic” alone, but “Christian” alone leaves a huge question : which kind of Christian? There are thousands, with thousands of different beliefs.

Why? What on earth is your purpose? Protestant Bibles are Truth. There are some differences between them and the Catholic version, but they do not offer false teachings. Not so with the Book of Mormon. If you truly are a Catholic, or a Christian of any denomination, then this will bother your conscience.

However, my suspicion is that maybe you are just trying to get some people on here all riled up. The fact is, if you are a follower of Christ, then you likely already know the answer to the question you posed.

Exactly!

👍

Goodness. Be kind guys. This is a valid question.

It’s similar to the dilemma a Baptist frien is having over working at a convenience store where they sell beer. Her religion prevents her from partaking of that sweet nectar 😉 but, she figures that they’ll just go somewhere else if they don’t go to here so … it’s between them and God.

Well it doesn’t bother my conscience at all since my buyers all are people that are just interested in reading the Book of Mormon. I’m not trying to convert them. I was just wondering if there was a some canon law I could be violating.
No, I’m not trying to rile people up. I thought asking such a question on the Catholic Answer forum was the proper place.

It was Keith_W. It seems lately on here the good apologists have gotten burned out. Just about everything I see is getting flamed. IDK what’s going on. People need to chill out a bit.

Now, if you were going door to door pushing the BOM, then we’d have to have a talk. 😉

Personally, I wouldn’t let that book in my store, since it might give people the wrong impression. Kind of like selling a Satanic Bible…

Why would anyone buy a Book of Mormon? The LDS Church gives them away for the asking, and sometimes you don’t even have to ask – they come uninvited to your front door.

My first thought is what Jim Dandy said. You are in the role of a bookseller, not an evangelist. I do not have a Book of Mormon. If I wanted one to study I would buy it rather than hit up a Mormon for one, because of the baggage that would come from such a request. You might also ask yourself if you would sell a fellow Catholic a BOM. Saying no would suggest that you thought you understood his needs better than he did, that you were the better judge of how it would be used, and how powerful its testimony would be. On the other hand, how better to refute the claims made by Mormons than to know where their ideas come from?

sorry, could you explain what exactly you mean when you say “the BOM is not a revealed book”? thanks.

Your profile states you are Christian. Why then would you sell the Book of Mormon? The Mormons are NOT Christians!

It was not revealed by God. It is the same with the Qur’an.
and how do you know this? I thought it was generally accepted that Islam is from the one God same as Christians and Jews. You mean, if it was revealed by an angel instead of directly from God, it doesn’t count? I’ve never heard of this before.

First, Christianity rejects all forms of universal salvation, without attempting to limit God as to whom He will save. Secondly, the Qur’an has truth in it, but only inasmuch as it agrees with that which had already been revealed by God through His prophets. Jesus is the final prophet, and all who come after Him are, by definition, false. The same with Joseph Smith as it is with Muhammad. False prophet. Actually, both religions have a rather disturbing number of similarities about them. Does that suggest anything? See what Saint Paul has to say about such angelic “revelations”

Galatians 1:8
New International Version (NIV)
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!

Both Muhammad and Joseph Smith claimed to have received their “revelations” from an angel, and both revelations ran counter to all revelation which came before. Big caution flag.

I’m no expert on Mormonism but don’t they accept Jesus as the son of God and messiah. what else is there that is not acceptable about mormonism except it came after Jesus.

Neither the Mormons nor the Jehovah’s Witnesses are Christians, although both claim to be. They do not believe that Jesus existed from all eternity, but rather that he is a creation of the Father and inferior to Him (JW), or that he is a man who was made into a divine being by the Father (Mormon). Since both sects deny the eternally divine nature of Christ as revealed to the Apostles, they are not true Christians. Neither is the Mormon baptism recognized by the Catholic Church, even though it may appear to be the same to a casual observer. They baptize in the name of a father, son and spirit that are different in substance from the God of Israel. Only the names are the same.
