At one time I had no money for the Sunday collection; I did not donate. I continued to attend Mass. I felt lousy. Nobody required me to pay for the liturgy. It was free. Nobody will require anybody to pay for the Bible, the word of God. Go to any rectory and you will receive a Bible for free-- just do not expect a certain edition, a certain cover, a certain type or page style. The word of God is free for all.
People who sell Bibles do not sell the word of God. Rather, they sell books, the Bible, that cater to our individual tastes. Bibles with leather covers, Bibles with commentaries, with gold edges, with red letters, with sacred paintings, Bibles with thumb indexes and so on and so forth. This is reasonable and expected. Selling books is not a violation of the Gospel, rather it is a practical necessity of life.
