Selling your soul to the devil

I have been a lost sheep for about 13 years. I’ve been living in this world during that time never think beyond it. I have been woken up and I’m trying to clean my soul. I have a problem in that I feel like I sold my soul to the devil. I don’t actually remember doing this nor does my lifestyle suggest I did it. Is it possible in a drunken state to do this? I love Jesus and accept him as savior and lord. I attend Mass and teach my children to love God. Is the devil messing with me or am I screwed spiritually speaking.

I don’t think it is possible to sell your soul to the devil. Just start praying and reading the scriptures(I would start with the gospels) and attend a parish. Speak with the priest as well.

I’m not sure we can “sell our souls” to the devil. They belong to God at baptism. I am pretty sure that whatever you think you might have done can be undone in the sacrament of reconciliation. After that, you need to let it go and allow God’s grace to fill your soul. The devil likes to make us dwell on past sins that we have already confessed and been absolved of, to make us think we will never be “good enough.” If we fall into this trap, we are likely to give up and return to the world. Don’t allow yourself to be fooled. Yes, the devil DOES “mess with us” this way. Rebuke him! Use holy water, say the St. Michael prayer, or whatever you need to do to tell him he has no power over you. Do not dwell on negative thoughts. God has the power to forgive any sin, even yours. To doubt it is to doubt that God is almighty. Get to confession, and then get on with your life in Christ.

Sounds like you are being tempted to despair. There is no such thing as being “screwed spiritually speaking” unless you die unrepentant in a state of mortal sin. Until that moment we always have the hope of salvation. To think otherwise is to call God a liar.

I highly recommend for you the Self-Help First Aid section from the St. Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling. The Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance will help you to “clean your soul” as you mentioned.

If you still have a problem after doing the seven steps, then you can contact a counselor through the Help Request Form on their website.

Thank you all for the response. It makes me feel much better. I never recall doing this but I do remember seeing people that were jerks having so much and me so little thinking it is like they sold themselves to the devil. I realize now conventing their stuff is in itself a sin and thank God everyday for what I have. It is actually a lot and he has blessed me more than I probably deserve. Thank God for this website and the good Christian people that hang out her.:clapping:

I concur with the advice so far. But most importantly, don’t try to go this alone or rely exclusively on internet resources. Go talk to a priest in confession as soon as you can, be candid, do what he says, and you will be fine.

In the meantime, talk to Mary and ask for her Son’s help. If there is anything diabolical involved (a big “if”) be confident that Mary is her Son’s most powerful warrior, and she is your mother (just think about that). If there is nothing exceptionally diabolical (I qualify with “exceptional” because we are all subject to some form of harassment, temptation, etc), you still are doing well to talk to her.

You can not literally sell your soul to Satan. God would not allow this to happen. You can sell your heart to him in a figurative way, however not literally your soul. I suggest you talk to a priest about this, and if you continue to feel Satan’s presence around you speak to an Exorcist. Pray to St. Micheal the Archangel and St. Benedict often.

Just the Devil trying to drive you into final dispair. One cannot sell one’s soul to the Devil, because it is not yours to sell. There is NOTHING that can seperate you from God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness, except your unwillingness to ask God for help.

Make an appointment with a Priest for a one hour session of confession. And do it. Just do it.

Even if you had, Jesus conquered satan on Calvary. All you would have to do is to repent and pledge your love to Him.

I would strongly suggest you discuss your concerns with a Catholic ordained Minister. In particular: go to Confession. I think you would find it a GREAT release and healing.

As much as I hate to admit it, i seem to be in much the same boat as igator99.

I was searching for some answers on the web, when I came across this site. I just want to thank everyone who has posted here for giving me some kind of hope.

By the way, I also know about site called NewAdvent.com Unfortunately, it didnt have anything on this particular topic, but it did seem pretty good for any other questions you’re too ashamed to ask. But it’s still pretty hard to beat a good oldfashoned priest!

There’s no clean break from our sordid past. That’s life. We’re imperfect, but must keep trying to achieve perfection. Victory is in the struggle itself. Just do your best, every day. In my colossal fight with Evil, I end each day exhausted, zeroed out and pummelled. I can only hope God knows I love, serve and seek to know Him, in my greater campaign.
