Wasn’t sure where to put this but are there any other seminarians or people discerning the priesthood, hoping to enter the seminary that frequent the board? Thanks and God bless!

Anyone who doesn’t want to post something for everyone to see, feel free to send me a private message. Who knows, maybe we could start a listserv support group or something of that nature. God bless!

I am currently in the application process to enter the Carmelites. I hope to hear something by the middle of July.

It will be some time before I enter the seminary though as I will be in the pre-novitate for 2 years to finish my college, then the one year novitate, then 1-2 year internship in a Carmilite ministry, then to the seminary. So that is 4 to 5 years out.

This is great. Congrats.

I agree, we should start a “support group” here as you put it.
I too would join the boat.

I have been there, Fr Bruce is the Carmelite I know that put me in touch with the vocations director.

I would love to do my internship there! But we shall have to wait and see, God Willing that is.

Godspeed. There’s some pretty hefty talent at that house. Fr. David Simpson is amazingly gifted.

That’s great ByzCath. I had very little interaction with any religious orders growing up, mainly diocesan. Over the past few years I’ve become relatively familiar with the Dominicans, as one has been our acting campus minister at school, and more recently I’ve been going to daily mass at the Shrine of St. John Neumann which is run by Redemptorists. So many great religious orders opens up a whole new can of worms! I wish you the best of luck in the pre-novitiate!

Hey there!

I’ve been thinking about the priesthood my entire life. Since I was old enough to talk, I knew I wanted to be a priest. Those plans were put on hold for a few years, but over the past few months I’ve been feeling it more and more.

When I was in grade school and high school, I always figured I’d be a diocesan priest. Like you, I didn’t have too much exposure to the orders out there. Now, I see myself more likely to join a religous community than the diocese. For the past 6.5 years I’ve been working at a youth retreat center that is operated by the Mariannhill missionaries. While I never would have thought I would be interested in a missionary order, I’ve often wondered if I was so attracted to this retreat center and have stuck with it for so long for a reason. I think this might be where I’m meant to be.

Anyway, I’m rambling. 🙂 If you ever want to chat more, feel free to PM or email me. I think it’s good for us to share our experiences.

By the way, I like your idea about a listserv or something similar. I’ve searched for some kind of forum or community devoted to discernment and vocations where I could talk with like-minded people. We should try and set something up…

Take care,
Timmay!

I am presumably entering St Charles Borromeo Seminary in August, provided I receive an acceptance letter in the mail… pray for me.

I should be entering the Norbertine Fathers
monastery in Orange CA, in August.
Im still witing to be accepted though.

Anyone who wants to be part of an email listserv PM me with your e-mail address. Also, anyone who knows how to set up a listserv, that would help too 😃 .

I plan on entering the Jesuits after High School.

I’m in the midwest, so they seem more orthodox here than they are out in California for example (those California Jesuits really get me angry)

I think I’ll be starting the Candidacy process this coming school year because I will be a junior.

Hey Byzantine, that’s great news. Are they discalced carmelites? Yes, The orders are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy better in today’s Catholic Church in the USA than the diocesan lonely priesthood.

Good news, guys!I am also heavily concerned about vocation to priesthood. But rather religious. I am intelecetually inclined and for diocesan priesthood I suppose I should be more practical. Anyway, I am still an altar boy.Almost the oldest in our parish.I am 22 now.Hope to do something with decision in 2 years when finish university.
