I do not know who I must turn to. I do not want to bring dishonor to my parents if I do not listen to them. But God is calling me. I am really confused.
No offense, but **** your parents. You should consider their advice, but in the end this is your discernment, and it’s you who needs to figure out where to go. I’m not sure if College or seminary is better (I’m still trying to figure that out for myself), but in the end it’s something that you need to figure out for you. It’s not about what your parents want.

Like I said, I’m not sure which is best to go to first, but I know that (at least in the US) the first four years of seminary is just college, but everyone there is discerning and majoring in philosophy. No matter where you go you won’t have wasted time. If you go to seminary for a year and drop out, you’ve still got plenty of transferable credits and go back to college. If you go to college for a few years, you’ve still got plenty of credits to skip classes in seminary.

I’ve heard some people say that going to college made them forget about becoming a priest, and while some people in this thread have suggested going to a Catholic college to remedy that, then you’re racking up a lot of debt, so I would suggest going to a state school.

I think I need to follow this thread closely. DS is discerning a vocation and we are preparing to send him to an orthodox Catholic H.S. After that, we are not sure, but he felt his calling at a young age.

Thanks for the posts here. He will have a spiritual director in HS, but he has one more year before he starts.
As FYI - St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia is awesome!

And if St. Charles Borromeo Seminary moves to the campus of Newman University, then he will most likely attend general classes with women.

So for your son, going to Seminary right out of high school might be an awesome idea.

Also, if you haven’t checked it out, I highly recommend this new Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia: martinsaintsclassical.org/

God Bless
