The Senate health bill is a 2,407-page labyrinth strewn with the legislative equivalents of improvised explosive devices – disguised provisions that will result in federal pro-abortion mandates and federal subsidies for abortion. The so-called abortion limits that are in the Senate bill are all very narrow, riddled with loopholes, or booby-trapped to expire.

Obama and Pelosi are absolutely desperate to get the 216 votes necessary for the House of Representatives to pass the Senate bill as is, unmodified.

If Pelosi gets the 216 votes, then the bill will be approved and immediately sent to Obama for signature. And it will be the law of the land and take effect immediately.

Obama, Pelosi and Reid will promise everything and anything to get healthcare approved.

So, if you want to stop it, you have to fight today and everyday until November and then continue to fight until the new Congress is sworn in in January 2011.

The bill’s had it all along, even the house bill before Stupak. (And I think to a limited extent after Stupak.)

so the House version forbids federal money from being used for abortion and the Senate version forbids Federal money from being used but leaves a loophole for private or state money?
or am I reading that wrong?
isn’t the senate version a reflection of the de facto way the Hayes amendment has been implemented these past 30 some odd years?
is there something different (other than actually codifying it in law)?

under the current legal situation is there anything either body could do to prevent private individuals from purchasing such coverage or private firms from offering it?

seems to me that if the Republicans wanted to show their pro-Life bona fides they may want to stop their tactics that are forcing this reconciliation procedure so that a joint bill could be worked out.

otherwise a small group of pro-life Democrats is fighting alone
