The reason why im doing it this way is cause my confirmation and first communion is on nov 26 a few days after thanksgiving and ppl will be out of town traveling and all. I know cause I always had to have my birthday parties before my actual birthday which is Nov 26.
Yes, people will be travelling around Thanksgiving.
And not to sound heartless, but even my most devout Catholic friends and family would not give up holiday gatherings for a confirmation and first communion, unless it was their own child receiving sacraments.
You can absolutely send out save-the-date notes now, but I hope you are not expecting people to stay in town just for this mass. Again, not trying to sound heartless, but this is not a wedding, in which two families and (oftentimes) two communities of friends and colleagues come together for the creating of a new family and extended family.
You know the people you are inviting, and whether or not family obligations will need to take precedence. Personally – and this is absolutely only my opinion and feel free to completely ignore it – I would send out invitations just a month or two in advance.
For me, and in my circle of friends, sending out save-the-date notes for Thanksgiving weekend would come across as a bit heavy-handed for a first communion and confirmation mass.
But I am not you, and my family and friends are not the same as yours. Pray about it, make a choice, and act on it.
And God bless you abundantly in your reception of these sacraments!
I’ll keep you in my prayers.
